Just checked it out. Thanks for the link! These guys are the shit. One more record to tack onto the list of ones I already can't afford.

I recently checked out the record, it's great! I seriously can't get over what Useless Children are doing in the best way possible. Quality noise rock for sure.

Hope all is well down south Rick! It'd be cool to see you back in the States in the future. I'll buy you a beer man.

This record is getting seriously heavy rotation around here. Highly recommended .

I streamed it and did not like it as much as the first two records. Maybe that's my fault.

I recommend the whole Flying Nun Records catalog (including stuff from overseas), and Jakob, nice post-rock from Napier. These last will release a record soon, take a listen to the teaser in soundcloud:

http://soundcloud.com/jakobtheband/new-album-demo-teaser

Rest of releases are in bandcamp,

I like specially this:

I love it. It's a weird little record for them. It's a nice turn in directions.

They actually lift the drum beat from "Four Enclosed Walls" on their song "Get Back" off of this record. It doesn't bum me out, but they had to have known what they were doing.

Click that link, give "Get Back" a listen and then listen to this:

I did not figure it out as complex as you did. For some reason I find it good but not as complex as you're trying to sell me.

It's not really complex, just a nice turn for them. I think you and I had the same kind of situation in opinions when MY DISCO's Little Joy came out.

I love 'em both!

YEAH! :D I thought MY DISCO took a turn for the worst. Maybe I'm really stuck in time that I can't get out off! :(

You like what you like brotha, that isn't a bad thing at all.

Your band rules hard man.

If the time ever comes around where you hear either of those records and it clicks, you best let me know.

I'm not entirely sure if I have already mentioned these New Zealand girls in this thread, but here is a very cool band called Coolies. I've been listening to their S/T record a fuckload lately and I really dig it:

Brisket's crazy ass brought these ladies up earlier in this thread and they're good enough to deserve a second round for folks to check it out:

anyone mention ulcerate yet? avant-metal act out of Auckland. i was listening to their second to last release, everything is fire pretty religiously for a while. there are elements of that record that remind me of obscura, which is obviously some of the highest praise i could give anything.

Ulcerate rules. I have to show them to my brother, chances are he'll love the shit out of them.

I know this is a stretch to ask, but do any of the forum members from Australia have any inside information on when or if Portal's new record will be done and released?

Here's the power-electronics duo of Ben Andrews and Rohan of My Disco. Good shit right here:

new Popstrangers song for those who're interested:

I reckon it's pretty much the midway point between the Gordons and Radiohead.

Well, just going to post bands that have vinyl

High Dependency Unit's natural successor is Mountaineater, more of a heavy post-rock band

Left or Right
The most bizarre mix of reggae/dub with seventies heavy rock with three part harmonies you're ever likely to hear. But it works.

Arc of Ascent
Glorious heavy psychedelia

Operation Rolling Thunder
Two piece instrumental post-rock, dynamic and razor sharp

Kerretta
Like Jakob without the formulaic "This is the loud bit" sensibilities, Kerretta are a dynamic instrumental rock band

The Puddle
As mentioned above with the Time To Go compilation, The Puddle are one of New Zealand's great under-appreciated psychedelic guitar pop bands. And they're still going. Southern Man may well be the best song to ever come out of Dunedin, and that's saying something given The Clean, Snapper, The Chills et al harken from the same town

Opposite Sex
Another outsider pop band with post-punk sensibilities

Snapper
Can't say much about this band, they're too good

I really, really liked that track. A tiny bit more than the first single they put out, even.

What's crackin' with those Sharpie Crows records?

Monkey Killer wrote:A bunch of great recommendations

Thanks Monkey Killer!

I will be checking these all out tomorrow.

I love everytime this thread is bumped.

I know it was posted in the Bailterspace thread, but it belongs here too.

They have a new record coming out August 20th called Strobosphere and there is a single at the bottom of this link.

Bailterspace - Strobosphere

Also, the band Harmony is pretty sweet. Apparently there are member/members of McClusky in this band. There are also members from the Nation Blue. Listen to the whole song, it's completely worth it. This band rules.
