Legislation: Banning smoking in public venues (ie. bars)

I went into the washroom of Richard’s on Richard’s shortly after the city of Vancouver did this and both sinks were completely full of soggy cigarette butts and the smoke was so thick I was scared to open my pee-hole. Gross.

Seems kind of lame.

While in Vancouver, I got kicked out of Blunt Bros Cafe for smoking a cigarette. Your can smoke pot there all day long but light up a Camel and your out the door.... WTF

CRAP
Even if I wasn't a smoker I'd still vote the same way because cigarette smoke never seemed to bother me much.

CRAP. I usually hate smoke, too (it depends on the situation), but it should be up to the owner of the bar/restaurant. Total bullshit.

I can understand a rule about not smoking at the bar, because the bar staff have to stand there all night.

But if I went anywhere with my non-smoking friends and you couldnt smoke in the building I'd just go home. It cant be good for business.

I'm allergic to cigarette smoke. It bothers me like nothing else.

It's really nice to be able to spend time in a bar without going home with my clothes smelling like an ashtray, a smell that seems to linger even sometimes after a wash. And I hate the smoke, what it does to my eyes and lungs. The one drawback I've noticed is that it turns out all these years the smoke was, in some bars, cloaking even worse smells. Also, it's turned out to be crap for people who live right above bars, since there is a constant huddle of people smoking and talking outside the window. But overall, definitely not crap.

This reminds me of San Francisco.

I gotta waffle on this one. I smoke. But I don't think banning it would work too well in Chicago. Too many corner bars right by people's houses, and I fear folks would stand outside to smoke. This could be a problem in the late evening. Just gives Daley one more way to close the local corner watering holes-and that's CRAP.
