Sounds interesting. It's got Idris Elba and Michael Fassbender so it could be good. If they ditched the 3D idea I'd probably see it in theaters.

I want H.R. Geiger to create some "proto"-Aliens. Moebius is still alive too, isn't he? It'd be sweet to see that "old crew" back together.

What was the last genuinely brilliant Ridley Scott film? I can't remember anything good since Blade Runner but I've only seen 3 or 4 of his turds since then.

A lot of people didn't like it, but I thought Kingdom of Heaven was good.

The Duellists?

Also, I seeing the title I thought that Mr Scott had finally lost it and was making a film about the dude who stole the fire from Zeus.

I'm not sure how I feel after viewing that trailer.

Trailers are assholes. In discussion with a friend about WHAT IT COULD ALL MEAN. In the end it's just going to be a bunch of assholes doing stupid shit.

Looks good, but about every film looks so in a trailer.

Can't tell much from any trailer and the film may well be brilliant but I thought that looked like every other J.J Abrams/Joss Wheldon/etc actiony sci-fi romp. No visual restraint, everything is multi coloured and in your face - neon space explosions and silly videogame bullshit.

If it's anything like Alien, most of that could have been the last 30 odd minutes. Maybe it's all suspense before that.

It looks good to me, the only problem I have with it so far is that they're surely going to have to reintroduce themes that we're already extremely familiar with. It'll be interesting to see if he can make the Aliens surprising and shocking again.

What I really don't like is what someone wrote in one of the other (Blade Runner? Ridley Scott? Alien?) threads: it's shot with 3D cameras which require the set to be flooded with lights to look normal on screen. So the dark look is going to be added in post-production. I fear it's gonna give that awful fake CGI feel to everything and I'm not quite sure whether it's not going to work against Ridley Scott - he is not going to be able to control the lighting and look of the sets as he did in Alien.

Don't believe that BS about how 3D is shot. 3D uses standard PL Prime and Zoom lenses that are used on film cameras. In fact, the Red Epic and Arri Alexa, the 2 main cameras used for 3D, have a higher sensitivity than Kodak's fastest stock and need less light. And also, in many cases, films are shot looking a bit brighter than what is intended and printed down (darkened, photochemically or in the DI Suite) in the color-timing. Something that has been going on since the silent era.

Yeah, personally I think the best way to approach an Alien prequel would have been to not make it but as I said, I have no idea how good this film will actually be, hopefully it'll work.

Well, it's the fifth Alien movie, so chances are that I'll like it. Out of the four that are already out, I find that I like the odd number ones over the even number ones. That they brought back Scott for the fifth one? I'll probably get into it.
I'll find out in June, I guess.
