Newsflash, BBC! The reason certain athletes failed is because your country sucks at the sport.

News Flash Mandriod2.0 - the country is actually quite good at sport. It kind of suits people to believe the sterotyope of a nation of fatties guzzling beer and smoking, but Great Britain always does pretty well at the games. And is actually doing well in sports that they don't have a good history in - Judo, mens Gymnastics, Canoe slalom.

The games have been fun so far.

I hope NZ picks up another couple of gold medals - it would be nice if we could make the Aussies squirm a little bit longer. Though I'm sure they're end up in a decent position in the table.

I've really liked the BBC coverage. It's been cool that they've had Ian Thorpe in and Micheal Johnson.

GB are 3rd behind China who rule the earth and the USA, I think we're doing phenomenally well.

home officiating, that is all!

The fuck has officiating got to do with it? If you mean home advantage, then there's some of that yeah - but how exactly do you think officiating effects the outcome of, say, a bike race? One guy crosses the line before the other - if there's some way a biased official can spin the outcome of that I'd like to hear it.

Nope, not got anything to do with the fact that I'm 'first world'. After you were being a dick about a dude's disabled cat in another thread, I figured you were being a dick again here.

You set a 'potential dick' precedent for yourself in that thread.

OK. Liking the games a little less this afternoon...

How can weed improve your sporting performance? What advantage was this guy trying to get? This seems really lame.

Anyone know why they test for pot?

I'm guessing this is why Ty Webb had to pull out of the Pole Vault!

None what so ever to answer your first question. Maybe he can relax that way but in athletic performance ways, he's hurting himself in the short, mid and long run.

Maybe to set an example that "drugs" do not belong in sports, I can't find another reasonable explanation.

First worthwhile moment of the whole thing was the Russian synchronised swimming entry using Goblins "Suspiria" today. Creepy.

It was nice that Benadrian's cousin won a few gold medals.

I am by far enjoying the women's events over the men's. As previously mentioned; so many of the male athletes are alpha douchebag jocks who I am naturally inclined to hate.
So many of our girls by contrast are really cool characters, they all seem to have really great personality when talking to the trackside commentators. All totally down to earth and cool. And then of course the demonstrations of emotion are so much more visceral. Winning or losing; the girls go off.

And then there's this bonnie lass...

who descended into full-on ecstatic giggly screaming teenage Beatles fan at Shea stadium when she won. Loved it.

Every time I have a minute to watch, something like water polo or men's beach volleyball is on.

Watching water polo is like watching people who have been amputated from the armpits down try to play a game of soccer. They need an underwater cam so you can see them pinching each other's scrotums and shit.

The London Olympics have been fucking excellent thus far. It's been really we run and aside from some douchbaggery with sponsors not taking up tickets and the general ticket pricing, the events have been well supported. My only really gripe has been with the general the BBC coverage, excellent in the main and providing good coverage of most of the sports but the jingoistic attitude displayed by some of the commentators has been nausiating. Jill Douglas' interview of the men's cycling road race winner should have been enough to get her the sack.

I love the Olympics regardless of where the games are being held.
