I like the new album. I like Liars. I like how every album is very different from the last but they all sound like Liars. Maybe I've written that before.

Unfortunately, neither of my local record stores has a copy of the new LP.

Lost interest after the fantastic first two LPs and that handful of EPs (Athiests Reconsider, Fins To Make Us More Fishlike, and We No Longer Knew Who We Were.)

they were from Omaha. we set a couple shows up for them in Urbana.
I only found Fade Machine, Fade Magazine and the Sunfoil 7" (link above), but Boy-White City is still my favourite.

I can't resist pointing out that Opium Taylor were from Lincoln, not Omaha. We have to lay claim to the good ones when we can. Their recordings are here:

If that file's still available, someone should tape it and get the songs off of it.

I have coffee with Ron about once a week and will ask him if he has recordings of all that stuff. Knowing Ron, I highly doubt that he has a copy of ANY of their recordings, but I'll ask. I'll let you know.

- We're Still Young Enough To Lay Face Down In Front of The Speakers
- Catchy Like Brains On Gangs
- Just Call Me "You" From Now On
- They Threw Us All In a Trench and Stuck A Monument On Top, the actual song
- Shatzi, Just Because You're Prone To Nosebleeds Doesn't Make You a Vampire (tee-hee)
- New Rochelle
- Start Up
- Oysters
- Pulse of America (which I think is an alternate title for the first song on Trench)

I showed your list to Ron. Though he doesn't recognize most of those titles, he said the song titles on the albums were usually different than the names he knew, meaning when they were writing the songs they'd have a working title, and then when it came time to put out a recording, the songs would be given ridiculous names that he never bothered to learn. So most of those have been released, just not under those titles. Make sense? He did think that "New Rochelle" and "Oysters" may be unreleased. He has tons of tapes somewhere, live recordings and demos, but he doesn't exactly know where they are, and I wouldn't think he'd look very hard.

Ron has some really good Liars stories.

haha! oops! thanks for the correction. and yeah, Opium Taylor were great. When they played the house show next door to our spot, they were transcendent. I would love to hear a recording of the song they closed with, "Mechanical Bull". dude was just screaming through a harmonica for half of it. In the recesses of my brain, this song is one of the finest live performances I've ever seen.
kerble is right.

I've tried and tried and tried and tried to see what it is that's special about this band, but I just can't.

They sound like second-rate local bands that play bars around here every night.

I have heard the early stuff to the latest shit and it's all so mediocre that it's not only hard to describe, it's hard to care enough to describe it (I know, I'm doin' it right now. It's hard).

I'm not joking when I say that the fucking Strokes are more interesting than these dudes.

It's totally fucked to even say that, I know...but in MY mind it's true.

And I dislike both of those bands.

Crap.

Guess they maybe didn't sell enough tickets cuz it was moved the Great American Music Hall, a better venue anyway. Good show. They did about half the new album and assorted tracks from all the others. It occurred to me that rather than being a band making music they are a band making performance art by manipulating sounds and language, and they're smart enough not to say that. Liars.
