I thought it was obvious, but maybe not. The name "white_wing_dove" is a reference to "Edge of Seventeen". I knew it must be as soon as I saw the name, and reading the profile confirmed that she is just a huuuuuge Stevie Nicks fan.

Does that change the perception?

A bit. That's cool if you're a fan, but putting it in your username implies that you've possibly decided to name your first daughter Rhiannon, if you haven't done so already, and that weirds me out a little.

My username is strange because somehow OKC took my LastFM account. At least that how I think I got roped into OKC. So yeah, usernames are relatively minor.

Think I might have something lined up for next week, with that flakey girl.

Should be interesting.

good advice.
i would also just ask her. like, so sunday we could do this or this or this & let her choose. i think it makes it clear that you want her to pick the thing where she is the most comfortable. then when she says, yeah rather the bar or the restaurant or whatever, then pick one out & suggest it to her.

date number three was so fucking beautiful, outdoors then indoors for more than a day, i can not believe how lucky i got. i will leave it at that for now. i seem to have found a super nerdy, hot buddy, confidant, partner in crime & most special lady. she is fucking smart, funny as all hell, & ahem, other stuff. i did not expect this at all, though lord knows i have wanted it forever.

salut! okcupid, you are far far from crap.

second date: i didn't push for guest list or anything, & paid my movie ticket like a normal person. she was organising & didn't have to pay. i bought us a bag of delicious popcorn & didn't put my dick in it. i picked up the tab for the drinks afterwards.

third date: we split on museum admission & then later i bought groceries, we split on a horrible 7€ bottle of wine from the corner store & i cooked for her (free improvised broiled chicken & okra).

i think it is a good thing if you can do it.
i was dating somebody that i pretty quickly saw that i wanted to be serious about.
in which case, my philosophy doesn't really differ from hanging out with friends: i got this one because i wanted to spend the evening out with you & you'll get another one one of these days etc. that has always worked out really really well with all the people i love.

Anyway, she said she's cool with grabbing a drink sometime soon and asks if I'm in the city often. I write back yeah, about five days a week now that school is back.

That was last week.

We went out last night and it was surprisingly fun. Hope to see her again.

So I've been trying to date women I've met IRL and avoid OkCupid for a bit. It's been a lame circus of flakiness and boring conversations about hedge funds, some bizarre adherence to douche culture and financial analyzing.

I think the prospect of moving to San Francisco couldn't have come at a more ideal time.

Okay, I reactivated my OKC acct. and deactivated my HowAboutWe acct. Something about having to pay to message people is some bullshit.

I'm still wary, but fuggit.

I apologize for the quotations on 'dates' I hate when people do that.
It just drives me a special kind of nuts, this new 'whatever' style of dating, where proper respect is not shown for the act or people involved. It goes both ways, mind you, not just the dudes. People have just decided that taking anything seriously or acting in an earnest or respectful manner is laaaaaaaaame all of a sudden. There's a reason why dating is exciting, the whole process, and it's not the fact showing up in sweat pants or refusing to pay for your date's meal is apparently not a deal-breaker any longer.

Other than that, how did you like HowAboutWe?

I have no plans to join a second dating site, but I would be psyched if DuoDater branched out to Austin. For years, I've thought that double dating is a great and underappreciated institution, ripe for resuscitation by the likes of me and one strategically chosen friend. The potential for awkwardness and comedy is just through the roof. Also, Romance!

It'd be even wackier online. Do you specify in your message, who is attracted to whom? What if one of them flakes and one shows (I guess that's an issue in old-fashioned double-dating, too)? Where do you draw the line at how many hours is too many to spend crafting a pithy message that perfectly negotiates the sensibilites of all four parties involved? Sign me up.

I always offer to pay for dinner when I'm on a date or even with a girl that I like. From my limited experience I've found that women that insist that they cover my meal are the ones that are really worth holding on to. Of course I never allow them to do that and we usually settle at 50/50. For me it reflects a sense of feminism, independence and confidence and that's really attractive and it seems that is shown in other attributes as well. It affirms that she sees me as an equal and vice versa, as opposed to a caretaker. I'm all for a woman offering to pay half...I wouldn't hold it against her if she didn't but it's a nice plus.

Showing up in sweatpants...or even wearing sweatpants in public in a non-athletic way is always a deal breaker.

Maybe you're getting soft, or I'm just worn down, but dating isn't fun- it's a war. Two people trying to out clever one another in an attempt to seal the deal. Tap dancing. Buying shit. Man, buying shit sucks. Being able to throw all of that shit aside and just get together is the pinnacle of human achievement.
