Band: The Mentors

The Mentors.

Crap? Not Crap?

What's the deal with these guys?

A few years ago I saw The Mentors down in Tacoma and I felt like a total sleaze. I like offensive stuff and I'd seen Heathen Scum's other band Kill Allen Wrench, but seeing The Mentors was gross. A bunch of shirtless middle aged guys carrying around blow up dolls (and that was just in the crowd).

That said, Steve Broy (Heathen Scum) had some truly amazing stage raps. They were all about fucking stewardess and taking booze to Indian Reservations, but they were all tremendously funny and were always the perfect segue into "Four F Club" or "Going Through Your Purse" or whatever else they played next.

The internet tells me Broy is a chemical engineer or something, but it also tells me that for thirty years he's been releasing Rape Rock albums. Guy has like 20 records on CDBaby. That's pretty fucked up, right? I mean once and a while that type of shit is funny, but to be that dedicated to writing songs about fucking sluts? Fucking weird.

Whenever I come across anything written about El Duce everyone's always like, "Oh yeah, he was a real sweet guy." Like it's charming that he was homeless or passed out at your in-store.

So anyway, some of you guys were there. The Mentors? Were (are) they total sleazebag shitheads? Or funny guys? Or sleazebag guys who happen to be funny? I'm never sure where the joke ends and reality begins.

Not worth any of your time. A soundtrack for mental midgets.

If it was a joke, it was a really dumb joke.

Fans of this band need to grow the fuck up.

The current incarnation of the Mentors played here in South Bend last year. They were surprisingly affable to do sound for. And I couldn't help but laugh at the subject matter and delivery. So bad I enjoyed it immensely.

So how do you vote if you like something BECAUSE it's crap? Still crap right?

Mentors don't bother me at all.

I remember Get Up & Die being pretty enjoyable. No worse than a poop joke gone very, very mad (and sour).
yeah? well, drip, drip, drip, drip, drip, drip.
fuck most things.

Some of my fondest memories involve bonding over singing Mentors lyrics.

Fuck a hater. Yes it's juvenile, and yes, sometimes juvenile is still funny.

First you suck, then you fuck, then you clean my room, bitch.

exactly mayor, it's tacky and that's why it's fun...it's doing what punk rock was meant to do, upset people...

I had a friend who would play Mentors and GG Allin records, then bust up laughing and say, "A grown man just said that. That's a grown-ass man."
