I tried with this band, I revisit them from time to time, but they're just too blockheaded. I don't get it.

The good parts just aren't good enough.

Have you tried listening to Gentleman, just once, from start to finish?

That's the one. As Sr. Albizzono or John Peel might say, it's not built for me. I hate having to say that, but unless we're talking about Godsmack, it's the best explanation I have.

you might like 1965 then - their last album and very different from Gentlemen - much more melodic - both songs are well worth the few minute listen, I think!

I've been listening to this band a lot lately.

I echo an earlier sentiment that it is a great band to listen to on long drives. May've played "Gentlemen" three or four times on tour.

"Gentlemen" is easily one of my favorite records and I enjoy the character of Greg Dulli. Tired of boring, humble rock dudes. Much more interested in the exploits of sleazy assholes.

"Congregation," "1965," and "Black Love..." are also great. "Up In It..." not so much.

The "yeah" at the beginning of "66" continues to crack me up. Great song.

Yes! I'm surprised there have been so few posts about the reunion. I'm really excited to see them.

Going to the show at the Bowery on 5/23 and some of their upcoming festival dates. Anxiously awaiting the (expected) announcement for the US fall tour dates so that I can deal with my work schedule as soon as possible.

I have no idea how I got so lucky and managed a ticket to the Bowery - they sold out in under a minute. I NEVER get lucky like that - I guess I was just finally due : )
CANNOT wait to finally get a chance to see them live.

You'll enjoy it. I saw them a few times, right after Gentlemen & then again after Black Love and they were always great shows. Saw the Greg Dulli solo thing last year and it, too was really good. I'm hoping for some US dates in the fall as well since the ATP line up was kind of underwhelming for me.

Lollapalooza.

They're playing g.d. Lollapalooza. And that's their only gig in Chicago.

Stomp, smash.

I saw those guys on the Congregation, Gentlemen, and Black Love tours. Great every time. I'd go to a reunion that wasn't at Lollapalooza...

There WILL be a full US tour - John Curley says so - article below : )
So I'm sure Lolla won't be the only Chicago date (even though, I couldn't resist purchasing a Friday Lolla ticket despite the fact that my work schedule may muck that up)
I've seen The Twilight Singers several times and Mr. Dulli ALWAYS brings it. John and Rick are phenomenal musicians as well. I've never been more pissed about missing shows than the '96 and '98 AW shows - I couldn't make it to due to my school/work schedule and just being flat out destitute! When AW broke up, I was wrecked that I never got a chance to see them live, so I could not be more excited about these shows.

Which drummer for this reunion? I'm too lazy to try to google it out...

LAZY! (It's in the article I posted the link to)

"For this tour, the Afghan Whigs also will feature Cully Symington on drums, Dave Rosser on guitar and Rick Nelson on various instruments"

Rick Nelson will most likely play keys and violin, etc, as he did for Dulli's solo tour and the last Twilight Singers tour - he's a very talented guy.

New release!
A starkly beautiful cover of Marie "Queenie" Lyons' "See and Don't See"
The band will perform it on Fallon on 5/22

No Rick McCollum? Whats the point? I might as well go see Flaming Lips without Ronald Jones or Van Halen without Michael Anthony.

Rick McCollum will be playing lead guitar!
Greg, John and Rick are the band - then and now.
And I agree - Rick on guitar is essential to an AW reunion, without him, it's not AW.

Dave Rosser is added for additional guitar, along with Rick Nelson, and Cully on drums, and I'm sure some other nice surprises.

While he's in the picture -

The band formed here in 1986, and singer/rhythm guitarist Greg Dulli, lead guitarist Rick McCollum and bassist (and former Enquirer photographer) John Curley are in this revived line-up. But they aren’t playing Cincinnati – at least not yet.

That doesn't sound promising. Did I miss something?
