First Issue isn't talked about nearly enough.

"Theme" invented the Swans. I could go on about each of the eight tracks. Most solid PiL record.

I would never part with any of the three, though.

Has anyone even come close?

Those records are as exciting to me at 30 as they were when I first heard them at 15. They sound so fucking great.

From a production standpoint, the sound is truly astounding. You haven't heard this song until you've heard this version, all 6:48 of it.

Having now heard this once: it obliterates the Metal Box version and is clearly one of the greatest things ever to have existed, especially the last minute or so. Thank you for bringing this up.

Why thank you!

It's on the PiL box. Find someone online you can download the track from, since you can't buy the thing anymore.

That's cause it is flawed in one way: both "Religion" songs are, honestly, pretty bad. Sad to say it, really, but it's true: John wrote the lyrics whilst in Los Pistolas Sexos and even Sid didn't like it.

However, anyone who says "Fodderstompf" is crap just doesn't get obnoxious humor or feel the power of a great bassline when they hear it, and anyone who says "Theme" sucks either doesn't know any better or is full of shit.

"Religion II" is a great fucking tune. The spoken word "Religion I" is kind of pointless in my opinion, but I still like it. And Sid didn't even know he was awake for the latter of the Pistols's career, so who cares what he thought?

"Fodderstompf" is incredibly funny albeit insanely obnoxious.

"Theme" is one of the band's best songs. Who the fuck would dare say anything against the opening track to one of the best records of all time?

i have now found a lengthier (6:34) version of "death disco" and something called the "death disco half mix".

i like the extended version quite a bit, though i think the mix i seem to have gotten is preventing me from saying better then the album version. the last minute or so is a blast to listen to and levene is playing the thing like it had killed his mother.

maybe it needs to sink in, maybe i'll have to download a better quality one.

either way, not crap.

and this half mix, just some instrumental?

EDIT: NEVERMIND. THIS VERSION IS WAY BETTER, i just had a shitty recording.

i read theres an even longer (10:00) version of "death disco".

albatross too.

http://www.fodderstompf.com/ARCHIVES/RE ... .html#info

Death Disco (Titled as ‘Swan Lake’ on ‘Metal Box’): A completely different, extended 'Death Disco' mix is featured on the 12” single (titled as 'Half Mix'). The 12” B-side also features a re-recorded instrumental of ‘Fodderstompf (titled as 'Megga Mix'). Both tracks are available on the ‘Plastic Box’ compilation.

The 7” version of ‘Death Disco’ is almost identical to the 'Metal Box' version, but minus a little synth at the very end; with the line "words are useless" added in its place.

The FULL unedited ‘Monitor Mix’ of ‘Death Disco’ (reaching near 10 minutes) is featured as an audio extra on the John Lydon ‘Best of British £1 Notes’ DVD compilation. Absolutely stunning… The mix also later turned up as a bootleg 12" single along with the 'Melodrama Mix' of ‘Albatross’.

Albatross: Again, the full unedited ‘Monitor Mix’ is featured as an audio extra on the John Lydon ‘Best of British £1 Notes’ DVD compilation. The compilation also features the ‘Melodrama Mix’ of ‘Albatross’ with vocals from Lydon & Wobble, plus additional Melodica from Wobble. The 'Melodrama Mix' also later turned up as a bootleg 12" single along with the monitor mix of ‘Death Disco’.

I did. And I'm not looking to start any arguments about how much greater any other "post-punk" band was. I just never liked PiL at all. John Lydon has always been a piece of shit in my opinion, and even if he wasn't I have never been able to get into their music. I have had many chances to listen to them and it just isn't my thing. Kind of like my lukewarm response to the Beatles, I sometimes feel the fault lies with me and not those who like PiL.

I cannot bear ill will toward those who like them because I understand the fascination. Plus, there are an infinite number of more horrible things to listen to.

As I posted in another thread earlier, I do appreciate them for providing a bit of inspiration to a lot of bands I do like.

So go on and worship at the altar of Public Image Limited, just don't expect me to bow down with you.

Anarchy only got to 38. It'd been out about a week or so when EMI dropped them and recalled the single making it nearly impossible to buy new for about a year.
I don't think it charted at all in the US (correct me if I'm wrong).

Isn't it ironic that the single of "Flowers of Romance" charted higher than "Anarchy In The UK"? "Flowers of Romance" went to 24 in the UK charts.

3 of the best LPs ever made.

John Lydon is a cunt.

Sometimes cunts make excellent music.
