I guess they aren't crap, but they are a very low not crap for me. They make almost as many bad choices in their songs as they do good.

The only Hammerhead I own is a 7" AmRep Research and Development Series picture disc: Peep b/w V.U. So good.

Be sure to familiarize yourself with Craig Clouse's recent band TODD. I did a C/NC recently here.

Thanks for that. I was never a big fan of their recordings, but their live shows were great.

A better than average Am Rep band. Far from crap.

As totally esoteric as it is to say, this is their best release. These two songs, when they were all I had by them, made me think they were probably the best band in the world. Subsequent stuff of theirs (and I bought almost all of it) brought me back to earth.

Their full lengths are peppered with some really good stuff ("Double Negative", the title track from "Duh, the Big City") and a lot of so-so. Still, their good stuff was great and they get the Not Crap from YT.

Hazlemeyer's graphics, though - they are Crap.

I haven't listened to those songs in a while, but when I bought the record, I remember thinking they sounded like pre-full length Unsane.

I liked the Peep 7-inch a lot, but I've never considered it special.

One of the more consistent AmRep bands, in my opinion. You could probably condense all of their good material onto one disc though, but I think I feel that way about a lot of those bands. The picture disc that both Randall & Justin reference is incredible though, kind of wish all of their stuff was that good.

Almost saw them live, but got too stoned and spent the evening puking outside of the club and sleeping in my friend's car.

NOT CRAP.

Not Crap. Own all the records, some are better than others, but "Into the Vortex" is my favorite. Saw them back in the 90's a couple of times. My band is playing with Heroine Sheiks next week and I hear Paul S. of Hammerhead has replaced the Swans Guitarist, so I'm excited about seeing that, oh and Shannon too......awesome band!

Actually, there was a guitarist between Norman Westberg and Paul Sanders for the Sheiks. His name was Martin Ros and he played on Out of Aferica. I've seen all of the Sheiks' lineups and I think the current one is the best.

Way not crap for Hammerhead. First time I saw them was at Okayz Corral in Madison in May of 92. They were opening for the Cows and I had never heard of them. They proceeded to completely blow me away. I liked everything they put out, but you can hear the difference on Duh, the Big City between the songs Sanders played on and ones he didn't.

Into the Vortex is on of the most heavy records out there.

I love that shit. It was great when I was younger and more angry. It still is great even though I'm not pissed anymore.

Hammerhead is one of my favorite bands. It's rare to hear a band that plays incredibley heavy like they did, without getting too sludgy and cliche metal sounding. I wish I could have seen them live.
