Couple great hometown bands doing awesome stuff:

CHRCH - Unanswered Hymns
Fantastic psychedelic funeral doom. They've been on the road a lot since this came out and have really tightened up as a band, I have high hopes for the followup. Mindblowing live act if you ever get the chance to see them.

Image

VRTRA - My Bones Hold a Stillness
Super dynamic, doomy black metal. My understanding is that they spent years writing their first record/rehearsing before they ever recorded or played live, so they just appeared fully formed. I have high hopes for them.

Not so local bands:

Body Void - Ruins
Great, sludgy stuff that feels a bit more structured than a lot of doom. It's an intense listen. As a bonus, Muhamad Ikbal Arifin's artwork for them is fucking fantastic.
Image

Hell - Hell III
These guys have been around for a while, apologies if they've already been posted. They put out filthily recorded, incredible miserable funeral doom. Dig that Doré Inferno art too.
Image

Black Tomb - Black Tomb
I can't decide if anything really sets this band apart from other really heavy, really stoned doom bands, but I've been enjoying this album.

Hell II is a favorite DIY doom release.

Void Omnia. Been jamming this tape quite frequently. Foward thinking melodic black metal. Fans of Sacramentum and Dissection take note. Maybe a dash of Blut Aus Nord in there too.

The new Immolation is pretty awesome, which should come as no surprise to those who are familiar with them. Goofy fucking cover, though.

I'm totally fine with that cover. Standard modern death metal fare. Album kills.

I feel like this is what the Morbid Angel "I" album should've been.

Girth, holy shit...

mathy instru-metal, like a heavier faster Keelhaul, from 2009 https://girth.bandcamp.com/album/deconstruction

more HM-2 kinda sound from 2005 https://girth.bandcamp.com/album/deconstruction

a brief fucking opus with more experimental composition and instrumentation, tinges of Beefheart, Melt Banana, Dillinger Escape Plan, and featuring a sick organist in the ensemble https://girth.bandcamp.com/album/sleeper-awaken-2

Bio:
Founded in 2003 by Dave Webb and Peijman Kouretchian. Their first record as a duo was "Living in Truth." The second album in 2006 as a trio was "Sleeper, Awaken!" on Web of Mimicry Records. The final triple guitar lineup added Mark and Blaine of the Swarming Hordes. Their album "deconstrucion." was released in 2009.

Dave now plays with Wah Wah Exit Wound.

Peijman now plays in Satya Sena.

Guessing more than a few of you have heard this already, but couldn't Google up a mention of it, and it's worth mentioning: Blood Incantation's Starspawn is the best death metal record I've heard in a very long time.

I can't believe I forgot to post this album when it first was digitally released last year, but now, since it's getting a vinyl and CD release through Neurot, there's even a chance one of you might play it, so maybe it was for the best:

THANTIFAXATH.

Mentioned elsewhere in this thread a few years ago. I started checking out Void Masquerading as Matter after Imperial Triumphant—who incidentally are in the process of mixing their new LP—linked it on social media recently.
