MOUSE, Mac and Jenny McNeilly's band?

Postby connor on Tue Jun 27, 2006 12:34 am

Did they ever release a proper LP? I've only heard the Kate Bush cover but really dug it. What happened?

Shit, I have no idea about the LP, but I have 3 CDs with Mouse tracks on them. The Kate Bush (I Wanna Be KAte), and 2 on Worrybird Records: Stock Footage and Why Do the Ravens Heave? I think I got them through Parasol mail-order. Haven't listened to them in years.

What's the EA forum's take on "file-sharing", not that I can't guess...?

Anyway here're some links:

I very much liked the band Mouse. They had a fine logo, too. Basically, the Victor mouse trap "V" turned into an "M."

Half of the band raising kids (the same kids) may have contributed to the band's innactivity over the last decade or so. That's my guess.

I still to this day don't understand how anyone could have a voice like that. So odd.

Salad anyone? Caeeeeeesar Salad!

for those scoring at home: She wrote the lyrics to Shellac's song Boche's Dick.

Wow, I'd like to hear her sing that.

I like the 7" a lot, especially the B-Side, "Emmett." Tense little song. Vocals are a bit less extroverted, although still strange and high and nasal.

I remember mutterings about an LP in the early '90s, but I don't think it ever happened. Never heard these compilation tracks mentioned above.

The Mouse single is yet another entry in the two-speed record category. The vocals at 33 sound like almost a normal, slightly annoyed dude and the music sounds deep and fucked.

Basically any good record will sound okay at either speed. This one qualifies.

Lp's-worth recorded, I had a tape. Great, in my opinion. "Munchkinland" from one of the linked comps was on the tape, and the single tracks, and maybe 5-6 more. I recall digging a song called "Iron Man vs Titanium Man" or some such.

I have heard that Jen and Mac still would like to release the album... Which of you label honchos will seize this opportunity? 180-gram in a tip-on gate, please.

I'd do it if I had the cabbage, fo' rils.

A few weeks ago I was rooting through my singles and was delighted to find the
Mouse 7".
I had sort of forgotten about the band's make-up but knew there was a reason I bought this. "Emmett" would frequently go on mixed tapes.

I think I know of a label in Europe that would be interested in this ridiculous endeavor. Probably not on 180-gram, but perhaps on LP.

Anyone know how to get in touch w/Mac and/or Jenny? If so, pls get in touch. Thanks.

I haven't wanted to jump the gun by announcing it but the record is actually in the works. FM Bob Weston and I got the tapes from the basement of electrical the last time I was in Chicago and he transferred them at CMS. There is like 20+ songs recorded and they're awesome. Both the stuff with and without Mac. Expect to see it released by the end of the year. I will keep you all posted.

Yep, that is awesome news. Love that band.

The tape I had (young Jurgis pestered Mac while in line for the bathroom at Czar Bar!) was maybe 10 songs, so I hope whatever gets pressed maybe will come with a dl code for the rest.

My old Mouse t-shirt got lost years ago but last year I found an unworn one just like it (red logo on white), at Reckless for $5. Made me real happy, but I'll need to shed my winter weight to fit into it these days.

Would be real excited for a Worry Bird Disk reunion tour of Mouse and Dirt.

I have only heard one song by this group, and it was about Ceasar (and all).

It was great!

Yes, progress is being made. Still looking for a couple tapes etc.. but it is on track for release sometime. When we have a concrete release date, I'll be sure to post it here. Oh, and it's going to be a DOUBLE ALBUM!
