Really Good Beers

Postby CJMcG on Sun Apr 15, 2007 9:57 pm

I wanna learn about some really good beers.
I'm not talking about your average beer.
I'll start with one of the best examples of what I consider really good beer to be Delirium Tremens.
It's your job to list more.

probably my favorite beer. if you ever get a chance, by some bottles. not the cans.

grain belt premium lager

I'm not a huge fan of really dark beers, unless it's something like a microbrew, or german. I prefer not to drink light beers, I'll drink anything when it comes down to it, but I prefer, something such as a grainbelt, spotted cow, pbr, bass, highlife. something I can find locally, I don't really go out searching for obscure brews.

anything by rogue or three floyd's or lagunitas. go to west lakeview liquors (addison & leavitt) - they've got the good stuff. also dogfish head - especially the 120 ipa & the malt liquor (which comes in a 40 oz bottle, yet doesn't taste like fermented sugarpiss).

I enjoy the Chimay quite a bit. I'm actively looking for better.
I will give another example and say anything by the Samuel Smith brewery is worth drinking.

i was lucky enough to have some three floyds brews before, they are great.

anything from the following craft brewers will be fantastic:

avery brewing co.
bell's
dogfish head
founders
rogue
stone brewing co.
three floyds

off the top of my head, those are my favorites. you can look at their websites to see which ones have distribution in your area.

Miller Light.
I am sooo serious. It is a good Pilsner. I grew up drinking "Pilsner", a popular brand in Western Canada (for those Canadians, it seems to be the official beer of Corner Gas?) and couldn't find anything in America that even came close for years. Then I had a Miller Light, expecting it to be High Life-like swill. No! Not at all! It was wonderful.

But my beer tastes tend towards white trash, and I am not adding anything to this thread. So might I suggest a fine Quebec brew called Modite? It is a serious high test beer (about 8% I think?) but doesn't taste like trashy high test beers usually do...it's dark and rich and there's a picture of Satan on every bottle.

Maudite. it's kind of nasty but it's a very efficient source of alcohol.

Jamaican Lager Beer. So often the staple of the rock clubs in Scotland, Italia.

McEwans Champion
Theakstons Old Peculiar
Deuchars IPA
Belhaven Best
Old Speckled Hen
Rigg Welter
Hobgoblin
Spitfire
Innis & Gunn
All the Arran beers

These are all good beers. Good luck getting them in the U.S. though.

I've had the Riverwest and the Eastside and enjoyed these both quite a bit, especially the Riverwest.
