No drop thank goodness! At least not the type of drop I presume we're all thinking as it pertains to the current model of dubstep. Filtered-disco house, or even just plain ol' house music doesn't drop. There's no need for such histrionics!

If you haven't seen the video, you should! Todd stars as the titular character as he dances through his neighborhood, a bowling alley, shopping, cooking his own drugs, and then his own one-man party. I've drunkenly danced-up Milwaukee Ave. in the same manner more times than I care to admit. Y'all should also check out his version of Robert Palmer's "Johnny and Mary." It's painfully gorgeous and not at all dance-oriented.

Holy shit. I totally slept on this. Glorious. (Also kind of a relief to learn that Whateverest isn't a documentary, but a simulated documentary.)

dance music isn't necessarily electronic

For those times you're feeling great but want it kinda dark.

Talk about sleeping on a track! This was from a few years ago. A couple of French dudes having way more fun and creativity than those other two French dudes. Infectious, unshakable.

Hometown pride. Serious deep disco mix that sounds like a BBQ on the south side of Chicago in 1980. The Players Association, Stevie Wonder, Gary's Gang, Celi Bee & The Buzzy Bunch...Jamie goes deep.

I had the pleasure of hearing Floating Points DJ a whole night on Friday. Party was still in full swing when I left at 5am. It was a totally revelatory musical experience listening to obscure Brazilian and soul records dropped alongside contemporary house music and moving people just as much.

You are very much welcome, MisterX.

Today I discovered an absolute joy of a deep soul, disco, and funk track. It's from 1976, made by a band called Skye. The single is great, but the "dance version" is phenomenal, with the band, especially the bassist, jamming out on its glorious outro. Absolutely stunning.

One of my students introduced me to Leon Vynehall recently, digging the deep house vibe:

I highly recommend Vancouver's Mood Hut label/crew. Best producers in the game and solid DJs too.

A friend hepped me to the Bermuda EP by Harvey Sutherland - this jam takes a while to get going but then becomes sensational:

Also, someone (Mister X, perhaps?) posted a link to some Suzanne Kraft stuff a while back - have been digging a bit deeper and some of it is just brilliant:
