Shimmer - S/T LP

The best new band I’ve heard in a while. Really scratches that post skin graft/luttenbachers/us maple/fat worm of error/scissor girls itch.

Very lonely, creepy and depressed ambient music. Like if Jandek got influenced by tape music, and not Bob Dylan. It's a pity that sometimes Graham Lambkin decided to use some high pitched sine wave or breathed on the microphone like a Mike Patton moron for a whole track, because it totally ruins the mood, but it's quite an unique record and mood.

The Lighthouse by The Shadow Ring might be the weirdest record I have ever heard. Nothing like it, it seems that it came out of absolutely nowhere.

Micro-noise separated by vast spaces of static/silence. I should find it annoying, but I think that it is one of the best improv records ever released. Fantastic!

Work has come to an absolute standstill, so I'm super bored. Realized I've never (knowingly) heard a note of Sufjan Stevens' music. Listening to that Illnoise record. Not bad.

EDIT: Fell asleep 4 songs in, so now I'm just picking through shit on The Quietus' year-end list. Everything I haven't heard kind of sucks!

I was so happy when thin wrist reissued that. I had been looking for the original perdition plastics cd for years.

Jaco Pastorius “Honestly (Live Solos)”

I’m not a huge fan of Jaco’s studio work, but man...this is nuts. Mostly improvisations over delay. That guy was intimately acquainted with every fret and points in between. Lots of nods to Hendrix throughout the album. It’s amazing what a human brain and human hands can do.

This record might be the perfect Sun City Girls record, even the most out-there material is pretty listeneable. Kinda Tago Mago-like. And the songs? Great songs! Black Weather Shoes might be one of the few sad songs they wrote, and it's an amazing song.
