There's a new neighborhood bar on the 2500 block of Montrose. I thought I'd mention it because the drinks are pretty cheap right now (ex: $4 Guinness, $2 312), and I feel bad for them because they're getting no business yet. If you claim to be from the neighborhood, they'll give you a free drink.

They have a million TVs, so I'll be watching the NCAA Tournament there all day today and tomorrow.

I don't want to rag on a bar I have never seen, especially a new start-up that isn't doing so well but thats a shocking name for a pub.

Ha - while it was under construction (for the last several years it seems) we would joke that it was going to be the new Lounge Ax.

Possibly the worst bar name ever.

if you're up that far north/west, might as well head over to christina's on kedzie (like 3800 n kedzie? something like that) for $2 guinness pints... that place kept me nicely soused when i first moved up here...

This gets me every time. I can go for a pint in a pub within spitting distance of the fucking Guinness brewery and will pay at least twice that much.

i live next door to this place and have for the last 5 years. it has been under construction since i moved in, and for a while before from what i understand. it is really strange to see it finally open, after all this time. i plan on checking it out...haven't looked inside yet, do they have pool tables?

Fuck. Just what Chicago needs, another Irish bar with lots of TV's. They all look the same and use basically the same name.

O'Neils
Chief O'Neils
Sammy O'Neils
Sammy O'Mallies
Finnly O'Mallies
Shamrock O'Mallies
Hidden Shamrock
The Galway Shamrock
Galway Arm's
etc
etc
etc

Fuck you Irish Bars. Fuck you, and the hidden shamrock you rolled into town on.

You dot whole city blocks with the same facade and cater to sports loving, frat boy meat heads.

I guess I'm not done yet.

Seriously, the names of those bars drive me up a wall. The only thing worse are the names of our Taco/burrito shops:

Taco Burrito Express
Taco Burrito Express Jr.
Taco burrito Express #3
Taco Burrito King
Taco Burrito King Jr.
Jr. Taco Burrito King
Supreme Taco Burrito Express
Supreme Taco Burrito Express Jr.

etc.
etc.

Fuck. A little bit more creativity wouldn't hurt guys.

That's what I'm talkin bout.

A Sudanese "wacky" theme bar/restaurant (like Bennigan's) named Khartoum Kharacters. A South American Hooters-type joint called Titicaca. A gay Canadian bar called Mounties. Work with it, people.

It's $3 with the new tax that kicked in the first of the year. If I'm drinking in the City, I usually end up there by the end of the night. Christina's is also one of the only bars in the City that has a HEATED SMOKING ROOM. That doesn't matter now, but it was nice to have the last few months. Aside from the horrible karaoke on Saturday nights, I love everything about that place.

There is one thing this world DOES NOT NEED, howenver...another bullshit "Irish Pub". Gag me with a spoon.

That's walkable for me.... My favorite place in the 'hood is Leadway up at Damen and Foster. They have free pool and free painting and when I've gone with my Romanian friend, free beer (the owners and some staff are Romanian). Otherwise it's a bit dismal, bar-wise, in these parts.

Right on, although I give a break to the Abbey Pub and Ginger's Ale House, who have been around for many years and where the TVs are more likely than not playing a soccer game from the UK or Mexico. Plus, both places have pretty good food.

The best Irish place around was the typically named but great Harp & Shamrock Club on Fullerton, which was suddenly closed and torn down a few years ago. They would give you a little pink pig when you had a drink coming and there were always steaming hot towels for you to put on your face to invigorate and inspire you to have another eight pints.

In addition to the hopelessly gauche name, this bar has a lot of kinks to work out. This, however, is its charm. I watched a very flumoxed (though cute) barmaid fill three consecutive pints of beer with head. I was touched.

Does anyone want to watch college basketball with me (at this bar) before the Bear Claw send-off show?

Quenchers is on Western, and Paddy O'Splaine's is near the corner of Montrose/Western. We'd just have to catch the bus when the time came.

There might be basketball on Saturday and Sunday, too.

Okay first of all, the current owners have not been the previous owners who were working on the place for years before. They just bought the place and its only been under construction for months.

And, the name is the only Irish thing about it. If youve seen any of the magazine articles about it, youd know that. Its just a name. The food is amazing and yes they have pool tables. Go in and see for yourself.
