Biggest jerk in rock music?

Postby givemenoughrope on Sun Jun 22, 2008 12:31 pm

My vote goes to this guy (watch the video):

http://www.nme.com/news/queens-of-the-stone-age/37399

and the genius follow-up:

Forget the homophobia bit. How about a selfish rock star putting a teenage kid's life in danger by singling him out in front of thousands. What an asshole. If there has been a bigger dick move from a performer at a rock concert, it's unknown to me. He'd be banned from performing in my country if I had such power.

Any other of this particularly selfish brand of stupidity?

People die at big rock concerts. Singling one stupid teenager out and threatening him like that is really stupid. Any number of boneheads could have ganged up on him if they felt like it. This guy is a class A turd.

Isn't there already a Gene Simmons crap/not crap?

Honorables:

Sebastian Bach
Ted Nugent
Axl Rose

Trying to single out the biggest jerk in rock is an exercise in futility -- rock is lousy with 'em!

Gene and the Nuge are with it enough to know that attacking a fan is dumb and will cost them money. The other two have the mugshots to prove otherwise. This guy is just pawning his macho off on the crowd.

I'm just saying that this guy is like the opposite of Ian Mackaye in his dealings with the audience.

I always thought that the ultimate Jerkdome would be Al Jourgensen vs Billy Corgan.
Of course, we can't forget Vincent "Man vs. Myth" Gallo. He's hors concours, though.

This takes me back to the Queefs of the Stone Age thread.

I've never felt the need to throw anything at a gig. Either way.

Meaning: IM would escort them out or hand them money back and make them feel stupid.

This guy is one step away from asking the audience to beat people up. He does this near every show.

I know of none that come so close to this kind of douchery, almost asking the audience to beat this kid up. Can you think of one in any era?

As lame as this sounds, what if this were your kid? He tossed a sneaker at a stage so he deserves to be threatened like this? Potentially pretty dangerous or deadly.

Hey, it's rock music. It's supposed to be wild and dangerous, no?
Just not that wild and dangerous?

The whole thing is pretty tame. He yelled at someone who threw some shit at him. Yawn.

If he had actually jumped down and 'butt-fucked' the child, it might have been...impressive(?!).

Whining about people throwing stuff at you, then threatening to kick proverbial arse, but instead ordering your minions to expel the child and then throwing something at the child (which is exactly what you've just been whining about) is hilariously pathetic.

I bet Ron Jon Bovi would have at least slapped the child with his own dainty, gloved hand.

I think next time they come through town someone should get front row tickets. During the set they can discretely masturbate into their hand. When the time is right they can fling it directly into his mouth as he sings.
I bet that'd really set him off. I mean, if a bottle makes him go that crazy imagine how he'd feel about a mouthful of stranger spank.

I saw Lux Interior kick on a guy he pulled onto the stage, but that was awesome and well deserved as the guy was being a piece of shit and Lux can do no wrong.

If this is neither sarcastic nor a joke, I am going to have to call the tenured faculty of the University of Terrible to nominate you for the dumbest statement in the history of the internet. Think about that for a second. In the history of the internet.

Oh, and I bet the reaction of many people in this thread would be eerily similar after he or she had taken a few hurled bottles to the face.

Not justifying the language, homophobia, or threats used by the person in question. I'm just saying that your reaction might be a little extreme as well after you've taken a few solid objects to the head in a festival setting.
