yeah, junkyard gets really boring really quickly - and that damn dangling ball in the middle is such a nuisance...

on my annual jaunt to seattle, and it feels real nice to be playing actual pinball instead of ipad pinball. this is still one area where l.a. is woefully lacking, and it's a drag. spent a few hours getting re-acclimated at shorty's tonight. a couple of interesting notes:

• i don't think i've played an actual table since the last time i was in seattle. instead, i've been geeking out on the ipad versions of monster bash, medieval madness, etc. funny thing about that - the actual machines seem HUGE now. took about 45 minutes to get my brain re-jiggered to deal with the size/angle of actual flippers and actual balls (twss). interestingly, the ipad pinball play seems to have helped with my skill in general -- consistently nailing shots that i had difficulty with last year -- but i'm still shaking off the scale thing. will be real curious to see where i'm at on wednesday night after 2-3 hours/night for four nights.

• i'm way into the swap-LEDs-for-bulbs thing that seems to be all the rage. shorty's has done this really nicely with addams family (red bulb in the electric chair scoop), medieval madness, etc. one peeve tho -- the white LEDs totally suck because they're way cooler on the kelvin light temperature scale. white bulbs were always really warm - like 2600-3000k. LED-swappers, please adjust accordingly and quit using this blue-white 4000-4500k nonsense.

stoked to hit narwhal tomorrow....

dang, dude - narwhal needs to put some elbow grease on their machines - both medieval madness and attack from mars had some weak flipper action and were lacking vim, vigor, and pep. disappointing for sure, tho of course still better than nothing. surprisingly, funhouse was super-strong and note-perfect. maybe just cause fewer people are bashing away on it? dunno. regardless, had myself a time and managed to sneak my initials in amongst the locals...

continuing to go off in seattle...

hitting the bell in this game is so frickin' satisfying. just a nice thwock, followed by the ac/dc bell noise. love it.

also, seattle is such a tough town for throwing up one's initials. spent a good two hours playing monster bash, racking consistent scores in the 200-300m range. minimum to get up on the boards around here is 370m, with a gc of 1.1b. that's nuts, and i tip my hat. were that all major metropolitan regions were as fanatical...

this is interesting - a kickstarter for a new pinball museum that would only be an hour from l.a. instead of the five+ hours of tim's spot in vegas. damn skippy i'm going to support this... http://kck.st/184VyTS

damn, son, that's a ridiculous list of games that they already own and want to put on site:

Hench! did you play AC/DC at Shorty's? Christy and I played that table and I was INSTANTLY addicted. Gotta find it again.

yeah -- i was pretty geeked out on it at shorty's last night. definitely fun, tho i'm still not clear about all of the gameplay rules. per chicago pinball map, delilah's, emporium, and lincoln square lanes all supposedly have it. those listings aren't always accurate tho...

yeah, the slayer one is cornball. i swear by pinball arcade - every couple of months or so, they release two new games. nice thing is, they're emulations of real williams and bally games - attack from mars, medieval madness, etc. the physics are for the most part spot-on and the gameplay is excellent. usually each new table pack is like $4.99 - seems pricey at first, but hell - i spent that just on ac/dc last night...

hench-

Pinball arcade is incredible.. my only issue is choosing which ones to buy since its usually one good pin and one I have no interest in. I hope someday they tackle The Addams Family and T2.

Best ones I've played:

Medieval Madness
White Water
Attack From Mars (obviously)

And Gorgar for pure badassery.

I am very excited about this:

Now that I see it, I'm a little surprised its taken this long for someone to come out with an OS specifically designed for gaming.

I walked into Logan Hardware and saw they had the Simpsons pinball machine. I got totally transfixed and played it with an interest that I haven't had for years. Just absolutely captivated by it.
