Second this observation. The previous 95% of the song is hectic building tension, nailed with this sweet release.

So many great ones listed already, but here are 2 more + my feeble attempts to articulate what I love about them:

Silkworm: "Quicksand" -- simultaneously anchors, drives, and is the song; also keeps things grounded while that glorious guitar solo briefly goes off the rails.

The Smiths: "This Charming Man" -- Bo Diddley and walking bass lines dance across octaves; man, did the Smiths have an awesome rhythm section.

Also pretty much every Geezer Butler bass line through and including "Heaven and Hell"-- has anyone gotten close to as much mileage out of a blues scale?

I mean, it's no Heart of the Sunrise, but c'mon! That's a decent bass line.

I'm sure it's been said before, so i want to at least second Joe Lally's bass line on Long Division.

I don't care about Serge Gainsbourg's whole deal too much, but this record sounds great and the playing is wonderful, esp the bass on the first track--Herbie Flowers, one of my favorites. I suppose we have it to blame for Beck, but at least we got something out of it.
