Frustrated Property Owner Giving Building Away for Free

The only condition is that you have to spend one entire night alone in the building!

Seriously I bet that place is massively fucked and the owner wants to saddle some poor chump with legal responsibilities, like the place was used as a meth lab or some shit and there's some fuggin' RCRA or HAZMAT cleanup involved.

FM BadComrade posted something insider-y about this property's owner, elsewhere; I don't remember the details, but yeah, you don't want to do this, at all.

You can buy 10 acres of pretty prime farm land in Ghana for 60,000 ghanaian cedis.

That is $15,000 US.

Considering the price of a one bedroom flat these days, surely every time somebody buys or sells a residential property, think what that translates into. An estate agent's fee at this point is worth enough fertile land to feed a small army (or run a food-production business).

Could be put to all sorts of purposes.

The disparity of price reflects a few things.

#1: the currencies and economies are basically rigged in various crooked ways
#2: africa is big like you wouldn't believe, no shortage of space

Can think of worse occupations than running an ethical and organic ghanaian farm on the side, get some solar powered robots & laser-insect-sentries etc, pay people properly, get it all hooked up to the internet etc. Some sort of futuristic agriculture R&D project.

Ghana is where a lot of the jamaicans have gone, and I don't blame them. Ghanaians are proper friendly, have not so far met a rude or crooked one, and I've met a lot.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghana_Empire

It's named after an ancient empire which occupied that location, before it was absorbed into the Mali empire. It's arguable that the area and associated culture has got a longer history of civilisation and urbanisation than many parts of Europe.

By post-colonial africa standards, the human rights situation is pretty impressive, also.

One of the potential buyers stayed overnight in the church with his girl friend. They were startled by sudden bursts of a stench consistent with sulfur. Then the smell diminished only to repeat itself over the night.

Some of those photos are of Presque Isle itself and not the actual island. Plus the fake owls on the docks are not perched high enough. And speaking of the docks, I must also mention that there's no way I could get my 35' sailboat into that tiny dock. And that guitar by the fireplace has nowhere near enough aluminum on it.

1/10 will not be buying.

Is it crazy to be concerned about buying waterfront property now, with rising sea levels?

Get a 30 year mortgage and once you've paid it off, your land is underwater, you have no money and no place to live. Is this a consideration in real estate now?

Not in the Great Lakes, yo. Waterfront property 600 feet above sea level 500 miles from any ocean next to the largest source of freshwater on the planet is something I consider a net plus in our coming hellscape.

Also, that island isn't actually in Lake Huron, it's in a lake right next to it.

There's no way I can get my 35' sailboat overland to that dinky little lake. 0/10.

I was just in that area last summer. That's a lot more than a gravel pit, it's the largest limestone quarry in the world.

Yay! And all the cheese won't get soggy either. Good place to be, this midwest.

What are the chances that we could pick up the soon-to-be-vacated Russian Embassy's retreat compound cheaply?
