Please don't live on three square meals of broccoli every days for years on end.
That would of course be very bad.

This new job has me sitting down for many, many hours every day, either in my car, talking to customers, or just on the computer. And I'm gaining weight. I think I made a big mistake

I'm 5'-11" and currently weigh 272. I was up to 294 a few years ago and was under 250 maybe 2 years ago. I don't eat great I guess but don't eat junk food and I eat a fair amount of veggies. I just eat too much. I also take a medication that causes weight gain. I'm physically active but don't do any real exercise. I absolutely have to loose weight now. I'd like to see my kids grow up! I just started seeing a nutritionist and I'm hoping that I can figure this out.

I just finished reading The Diet Myth by Tim Spector.

It's a very readable, and often funny, rundown of current dietary science, mainly from a genetic and microbiological point of view. Lots of entertaining stories and interesting facts. Plenty of "debunking" for those who like that kind of thing.

No surprises when it comes to what you should eat:

Tim Spector wrote:People who are basically fit but want to be healthier can achieve this in a fairly straightforward way by helping their microbes in the ways I’ve suggested. Try to eat a greater variety of foods, particularly fruits, olive oil, nuts, vegetables and pulses (beans, lentils, chickpeas) plus fibre and polyphenols. Avoid processed foods and reduce your meat intake. Eat traditional cheese and yoghurt, avoiding high-sugar low-fat varieties. I like the concept that our ancestors ate in very irregular and seasonal ways, so intermittent fasting or giving up meat for months at a time or skipping some meals seems sensible to enhance your perception of variety. Throughout the year try to eat fruits and vegetables that are in season so as to increase the diversity of the foods you consume. Also, cutting back on liquid calories, such as sugar in juices and other drinks, as well as calories in cakes and snacks, is sensible, as is avoiding artificial sweeteners as a regular alternative.

Wine is the majority of my polyphenol and liquid calorie intake.

I've gone from 250 - 260 to 180-190 since February. Actually, I lost it mostly in the first couple months and have been steady since then. I was eating a lot of junk, so you're results may vary, but still I'd say it's worth a shot.

Since christmas they condemned me to wear a spy bracelet which counts all my steps and all my faps and all my heart rate. Pitapat-pitapat... I'm getting all the daily goals to avoid the internet's international fat eugenics electrocution. My heart rate has decreased from a daily average of 103 to 94bpm.

I've managed to decisively pork up since September, and I was at around 118 kg (260 pounds) . In the last 3 weeks I've been trying to:

- not to eat after 20 (8 pm)
- not to stuff myself like an idiot each time I'm hungry
- not to eat whenever I feel I could eat
- use less sugar
- go out less (to reduce beer intake. goddamn I love beer)
- cycle / walk more
- exercise in the evenings

I think it starts to work as my trousers don't slip from my belly anymore and I think look slightly better due to more musscles on arms and in the upper body, but I'm still afraid on stepping on the scale. Which I will do tomorrow. Wintertime is a bitch.
