Another Sparklehorse Record?

Postby William_Benton on Fri Feb 25, 2011 10:38 am

Was just thinkin'/wonderin'...I have searched now and again, yet to find anything on it- anybody know if there are any plans to release the material that was recorded for what was to be another Sparklehorse record?

I was here to ask the same question,
Steve do you have any idea what's happening with the session tapes?

I have to hear this somehow

to me Sparklehorse were the most underrated band of the last 20 years

thanks for the reply Steve, was there enough tracks for an album even put to tape?

Nothing that was tracked here was ever deemed "finished," but in terms of raw material there was over an hour's worth. I have no idea what the intentions were for all of it.

From what I understand, his surviving family members have been trying to find someone to assist in the completion of a final SPARKLEHORSE record. Apparently there is a great deal of unfinished material that's scattered on a variety of formats. In addition to the obvious task of sorting through so many recordings, there's the challenge of finishing the album without Mark's input or even a road map (for lack of a better word) to work with. Last I heard, it seemed as though there were a few other obstacles in the way as well.

Everyone close to the project wants one last SPARKLEHORSE record that would do Mark's legacy justice. I suspect it will take some time before we hear it.

kind of what I figured,he never struck me as the type to map out a record in advance
I'd be happy with a Jeff Buckley "Sketches" type release

If a stranger had simply pushed up the faders on the multi-tracks of most of Marks released tracks, I bet they would have thought that they sounded pretty unfinished.
Without the overall idea of how it fits together, or the benefit of automix, perhaps the other people involved in the recording process could throw some light on how close the songs were to completion? Were Johnny Hott or Scott Minor involved? They might be able to shed some light on which tracks were still being worked on and which had been abandoned.
Also there is the body of work which Mark had already created. I'm not suggesting that his work was in any way formulaic, but there are things which remained fairly consistent in his approach over the years.

would be nice to listen more than Love The Lie and the bootleg versions of Oh Child before the end of the world.
