The PRF Make a fucking wish foundation.

A few things:

First one, I have a wish.
I wish somebody in the forum who emigrated to the US told me how he did it, shared with me the details of his journey, both the beaurocratic and human one.
I really need some help figuring out how to reside in the US, if I have any chance.
Any help would be really appreciated: you would do something very good for me.

Second:
I have been thinking about this for a long time: perhaps the PRF needs its energy directed towards creating an event (such as a festival), or a structure (live venue, record label, bar, hangout) aimed at people BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE the PRF circle.
Something aimed at sustaining itself, and even profiting to get better and better.

I read all these posts made by clever, insightful people everyday here, and it seems to me that with the BBQ and the singles club things are somehow headed that way. It almost feels inevitable to me. In all honesty, the PRF should be kind of a brand and more and more people should know about what cool things its cool people are capable of.
The PRF should organize something that in time gets HUGE, as it is perfectly within its reach.
Anyone else feels this or am i hallucinating?

It's my opinion that you are hallucinating.

Okay, okay. The PRF as a brand type of thing is clearly bad phrasing (and thinking) on my part.
It's just I see people like 'Sup and many others in the forum who are filled with energy and clearly seem to be on the verge of doing something huge.
A live venue, a festival, some kind of project, be it a representation of the PRF or not.
I know for certain everyone would benefit from this, come on.

I'm in the forum. I emigrated to the United States. I'm not sure I have anything particularly wise to communicate about the experience, but I'm willing to answer questions, etc.

Make a (fucking) Wish? Well, let's go big: I'd like to fix the school system.

This project has been building for about 2.5 years, and we're just getting traction. My lady and I have been developing a platform for open-source education, and although this may take some time, I know that it can be done. I don't wish to steal folks away from this fine place (several of you participate in both), but I do think that the folks that want to share knowledge are in large numbers here and are of the highest-caliber.

I've enclosed the email I sent to my teacher friends, and am including it here, as you've shown me what a group of brilliant minds can do:

kerble wrote:Hey _______!

thanks for taking interest in this nascent project.

Currently, Stockyard Institute (the Art-Ed Non Profit I work with) and the Center for Educational Technology (the department at DePaul University I work for) are preparing to launch a curriculum platform for educators.

the site, called SITE, can be found here: http://www.sitesite.org

SITE is an experiment in open-source education, and seeks to open a dialogue about what educators can do to support each other, organize resources and discuss ways we can improve the education system worldwide. There are currently two main sections of SITE, the Forum and the Features.

the short:
1. Teachers, etc. register on the SITE forum and discuss teacher things with other teachers
2. SITE team takes popular and useful threads and turns them into beautiful curriculum zines free for teachers to use in their classrooms, focusing on interdisciplinary, multi-media lessons with Art, Technology and Activism throughout
3. SITE forum community reviews and field tests curriculum to see how it works
4. SITE team revises 'zines with the new results
5. SITE community eventually develops an open-source textbook for educators to use for free

the long:
Re-Wiring the School System:
Imagine that a teacher has a brilliant lesson plan. It’s a lesson that motivates, inspires and informs. This lesson only reaches a handful of students—the number of students that teacher sees in a year. If this teacher can share this lesson plan with other teachers, the potential to reach more students with this great lesson grows. SITE is that place to share.

the Forum:
I wrote you specifically, as you have first-hand knowledge and experience with a forum that works together and gets things done. We've envisioned the SITE forum as something that can grow the way Electrical has grown, but instead of being a resource for musicians, it'd be one for educators.

This is where I would love your help. We are currently seeding the forum with discussion topics in an effort to engage educators and find out what types of resources they are seeking. I would be honored if you folks registered there, and talked about what you do and how you do it. I started a "what did/do you teach?" thread, where it'd be easy to just copy your responses from my electrical thread as a start. no pressure, of course. If you just want to lurk or want to disregard this altogether, it's no big thing. we cool.

the Features, or "You have a discussion forum, so what?":
Our end-goal for SITE is to take the things we learn from the forum discussion and turn them into beautifully designed lessons, professional development and resources for teachers that are free to use and available for download. Think of it as refining a quality thread into a finished curriculum 'zine. We would like for these zines to be interdisciplinary, project based and to incorporate Art, Technology and Activism throughout.

The shorthand for this, is that we'd like to use the format of a discussion forum to develop a community built textbook for educators to use so that we can re-wire the school system from the inside out.

We're interested in more than just your lessons, though. We want to know what you're reading, what news inspires or enrages you, what events you're attending, and most importantly what you think.

as I've said, this is an experiment. This is going to be messy at first, but we're interested in gathering any and all ideas about how we can make the school system work.

Thanks so much for your time.

Faiz

Please, take this as spam as you see fit, but if you don't, let's make something beautiful.

The article is accurate but far more humorous than the actual process. All of which reminds me, I have to renew my Green Card by November.

My wife is recently a permanent permanent resident (conditional status has been removed) so I know a little about this. She came here to go to school and ended up marrying me along the way (she's still in school, and will be for quite a while) so that's one way. But it won't work for you, since I already married her, and probably wouldn't want to marry you anyway. You'll have to find someone else.

My wish is changed now, I don't want people to come shovel broken glass anymore. I would love it if people just sorta swung by the space tonight and helped me move one thing downstairs to my evil SUV or to the storage area on the main floor. Two things would rule. But even one thing, if a few people did that, that would help like crazy.

What about a TAKE a wish foundation operating in collusion with the MAKE a wish foundation.
One goes around doing nice things for people, all that's been discussed, then the other hangs in the shadows and does things that screw up people's day, just a little bit, just enough to make them really angry. Nothing huge, just pranks and stuff to make them mad enough to where it's funny watching them lose it.
Ideally, both teams would work on the same person at the same time.
This, this would be something I would put a LOT of effort into, both ends.

I already rigged your tire to blow out. Hell, did a nice little number on the spare while I was at it.

Then I paid a broad $7 to kick my brother's precious car later that night.
