RIP

Postby John Houlihan on Fri Dec 16, 2011 1:04 am

Alright, so everyone is in a race to post about the latest dead person. They wanna let everyone know that they knew, five minutes before you did, that this person has expired. It's really weird. I'm fascinated (and mildly irritated) by such behavior. So put all your recently dead people here, in this thread, and stop bothering people, you friggin' sociopath.

(If this is because I bumped the Christopher Hitchens thread, I came by here after I heard he passed, figuring there'd be 20 posts in that thread about his death/legacy, which I'd be interested in reading. There wasn't, so I mentioned it there. I got no pride or kicks out of it.)

Yes it should. Rest in peace, your grandfather.

I'm serious. Why not? Let it out. Who's dead? Eulogize.

RIP various race car drivers. Every couple of weeks. Hard to believe such a fast car doesn't just knock the wall down and cruise down main street. But no, it's a fiery crash! 200MPH!! OH, THE HUMANITY!!!!!!!!

Point taken, but I might like being able to see what my friends have to say about so-and-so in the future easily via Google. I sometimes like what those folks have to say about so-and-so, and this thread threatens to slightly inconvenience me.

I saw a bunch of shit on tumblr today about some fifteen year old suddenly croaking - didn't say why but I suspect suicide. Dying at fifteen seems like a really shitty time to go, RIP tumblr teenager.

Jason Richards. No one here will probably know him, but a hell of a driver, a father of two, and only 35. Fuck You, cancer.

There's already an Obituaries of Distinction thread.

And I don't think there's anything tacky or unseemly about recognizing someone's death.

That guy from Barney Miller is getting pretty old, so I'm reserving this space for his inevitable demise.

Yeah. Howard Tate and Dobie Gray both died recently too. It has been a bad year in that respect.
