R.I.P. Sunny Murray-game-changing drummer for the likes of Albert Ayler and Cecil Taylor back in the day and with several excellent records under his own name as well...

Yeah, I really wanted a motorcycle after I finally saw it.
One of the first Surf music lp's I bought (besides Beach Boy records) was the Endless Summer OST. RIP Bruce Brown.

Good riddance, you kamikaze cocksucking piece of dick. Save a space in hell for Carl Icahn and Frank Lorenzo while you're there.

EDIT: I mean, it's sad someone died, it's always sad when someone dies, life is precious, but this person being dead means he can never cause my friends in the railroad industry to suffer again.

I alaways forget what an amazing percussionist Z'ev was. On a previous thread, I said that there were few drummers and percussionists than could create whole worlds out of their percussions, like Charles Gocher and Charles Hayward, and I hace to add Z'ev to the list.

RIP

Also, never forget his Sufaris cover.

The last surviving member of the Trapp Family Singers, the group whose story inspired The Sound of Music, has died at the age of 99, her family say.
Maria von Trapp died at her home in Vermont on Tuesday, her brother, Johannes von Trapp, told the Associated Press.

and then this,

Heather Menzies-Urich, who starred as Louisa von Trapp in the 1965 film adaptation of The Sound of Music, has died at the age of 68. The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization confirmed the news in a statement Monday, saying, “Heather was part of ‘the family.’ There is really no other way to describe the members of the cast of the movie of THE SOUND OF MUSIC. And of ‘the kids,’ Heather was a cheerful and positive member of the group, always hoping for the next gathering. We are all lucky to have known her, and she will happily live on in that beautiful movie. We will miss her.”

this was all very confusing for a minute. no, did not look up Heather Menzies playboy.

My younger brother told me today that Rick Hall had passed. Sadly, it looks like it is indeed the case...

My brother also told me a story he hadn't actually filled me in on before.

While the studio is obviously a pretty big deal to music fans everywhere, it has another layer of "Big Deal" for folks who live in or have roots in Alabama. While he and the lady he was involved with at the time were visiting family, they went out to go on the studio tour. During the tour, Rick walked in(seemingly in the middle of a work day). While he didn't say anything to anyone else, he talked to the woman my brother had been involved with. While he normally would have called somebody on that, my brother just let it slide because he had that degree of respect for the guy's life's work.

Anyway, that put a smile on my face.

RIP

A colleague and friend died in a car accident late last week. We've worked together for the last 12 years, and he was too young, too bright, and too loved to be gone so soon.
