Ah that's awful news. I had a feeling he wasn't doing so well when they cancelled the last U.S. tour and then cancelled the rescheduled dates.

RIP MES.

We've lost the man who exposed Steve's collusion with the trains.

I'll always remember that night watching 120 minutes, and this came on and, well...

Such a shame. I could have done with a few more decades of Mr Smith.

Holy Jesus Fucking Christ.
His sing-slur vocals were so unique - nobody quite like him. Saw him only twice - one great show and one not very good show.

Sad. But also a good reason to put on some Fall records and celebrate his life.

I thought he’d live forever. He died peacefully at home apparently. Worthy of the ‘Legend’ tag I think

Fuck I am really torn up about MES.

I'm posting this elsewhere, but whatever. One of the times I saw the Fall it was in the Knitting Factory in New York. There was someone up front singing along with all the songs, so MES handed him the mic and fucked off to the bar. He let him sing the next couple songs while he drank and laughed. That's maybe the most MES thing I could ever imagine. I'm not sure a lot of the audience noticed.

Whenever I feel burned out and never want to hear ANY music, I binge on The Fall.

Instant rejuvenation, never fails. Always restores my passion.

I know what I'll be listening to for the next few days (weeks...months....?)

But probably won't feel the quite the same this time.

RIP MES.

When I moved to Germany and first met my then girlfriend's dad, a buttoned-down civil servant (engineer/planner for the railroad) with a goofy streak, he took me upstairs to his den pretty much first thing and played a home recording of Rowche Rumble for me on his reel-to-reel (he had dubbed it off of John Peel, with tons of other things) and asked me over and over what it meant. "What does it mean, rowche rumble?" wide-eyed, grinning like a madman and nodding intently. I told him I didn't know. It was the first time that I'd ever heard The Fall in fact. RIP MES, you sparked the imaginations of countless people who were happier for it.

Chilean poet Nicanor Parra also died. I have never liked poetry, but I could always read Nicanor Parra's anti-poetry and smile. RIP.
Nicanor Parra wrote:Before I go

I’m supposed to get a last wish:

Generous reader

burn this book

It’s not at all what I wanted to say

Though it was written in blood

No lot could be sadder than mine

I was defeated by my own shadow:

My words took vengeance on me.

Forgive me, reader, good reader

If I cannot leave you

With a warm embrace, I leave you

With a forced and sad smile.

Maybe that’s all I am

But listen to my last word:

I take back everything I’ve said.

With the greatest bitterness in the world

I take back everything I’ve said.
