Awful news. I just woke up to a text on this from my ex. I’ve seen him play a bunch of times and have some mutual “on tour” friends.

Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata.

I've never actually seen Grave of the Fireflies because I fear it would be too damn sad and I'm too much of a wuss to put myself through it. Pon Poko I have seen; it is a very strange film. I ought to watch The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.

I was rarely in the mood for listening to Cecil Taylor, it requires a lot, but when I was, he was always absolutely transcendent. My favorite improviser, for sure, and changed quite a lot in music. He always seemed quite happy and funny and groovy, too. RIP.

Adam Parfrey of Feral House Publishing.

"Apocalypse Culture" is a treasure of early-90's what-the-fuck-ness. Worth the price for the Christian Shapiro essay alone.
