Recommend Australian/Tasmanian/New Zealand bands.

I've heard the obvious classics and a handful of newer bands that are great. But it always seems like just when you think you've heard the most of it, you've only scratched the surface.

Any and all Australian, Tasmanian, or New Zealand recommendations welcome regardless of genre.

I know I made a C/NC for these dudes a while back, but No Anchor truly are the shit. I'm lovin' their Real Pain Supernova record right now.

Recommend some Australian/New Zealand bands.

A dense swirl of Gorguts/Immolation death metal. Just harsh, irregular, and jagged. Really quite spectacular and I very much enjoy them.

Probably too quiet/convential for the PRF… but I like:

Cassette - They’re a country-ish band made up of members of other bands (HLAH, Lawrence Arabia, Hell Is Other People, and plenty of others). They don’t really fit in with any particular NZ music scene so they’re overlooked. I can’t get the link to their myspace site right now – but this them…

http://www.kiwiswithinstruments.com/cassette -(not to be confused with Cassette from South Africa) .

And The Close Readers - again really laid back and not rock at all – but recorded part time at home so maybe in the spirit of the PRF. It features the drummer from Cassette too. The guy responsible for it is a writer based in Wellington so expect odd literary laid back country tinged pop… or take that as a warning and don’t click the link.

Also Jacob – instrumental ‘post-rock’ don’t get mentioned a lot outside on NZ.

And an oldie that doesn’t get mentioned much is S.P.U.D – I think you can get some of their stuff from Flying Nun. I think the a couple of them went on to do Solid Gold Hell – also good.

Obscure Oz band C/NC. Forty+ views but no votes, somehow. Check out the clips and give an opinion, why don't you?

ALL of these recommendations are really good (minus the shit Houston_M suggested to poke some fun!).

SLUGFUCKERS, fuck yeah. I'll be buying the 12" with both EPs very soon here.

Here's some more bands/artists from Australia and New Zealand that I think deserve more attention then they receive:

Sharpie Crows are good enough to be mentioned twice.

Sharpie Crows ought to be the new Silkworm on this forum.

Thug were absolutely balls-out nuts. Brilliant band.

Someone from No Anchor talks to me on Twitter occasionally. I like them, they're a good band.

Sharpie Crows, as well, are quite good (though I'm not anywhere close to flipping my shit for them like Mr. Swansea does).

Did anyone recommend Grong Grong? Now that band was fucking incredible. The bootleg Live at the Berkley Hotel is one of the sleaziest things I've ever heard and it's pure drunken brute genius. The singing on that recording sounds like the guy ate babies before the show.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

In the someday, what's that sound.
