Caught these guys last night. Loud 90's "angular" stuff. Reminded me of SCUL HAZZARDs.

New cold wave piece from Buzz Kull. (Shades of Alien Sex Fiend perhaps?)

Since I haven't mentioned Melbourne's DEAD in a while - they've decided to make an ambitiously and inaccurately named trilogy in 4 parts. First is a split with Mark Deutrom and the second, UNTITLE, is coming out Sept. 20.

RIYL Melvins, muscular fuzzed-out bass, caveman drums, creepy but upbeat aesthetics.

I saw Canine yesterday with the Hard Ons at Blackwire Records. Their recordings do not do their live show justice, but are still cool as shit:

I just discovered them via their new album Undergrowth, I think they turned up on my Spotify weekly mix (which has suddenly started to turn up a few gems rather than average crap). Here's their bandcamp: http://mermaidens.bandcamp.com/album/undergrowth

Another recent discovery is Orchestra Of Spheres, also from Wellington. Their new album has got some goofy nu-psych moments a la Prince Rama (who I totally love, but don't expect any of you to), but also some great early Stereolab/neo-Krautrock jams.

Just found out about these guys; at least I learned of them before their US tour, not after:

https://chookrace.bandcamp.com/

Sometimes a perfect jangly riff can make the whole world seem brighter. Australia’s Chook Race open their second album, Around the House, with that kind of sound, a simple guitar line that launches and powers an entire song with ease. Things get even sunnier when guitarist Matthew Liveradis and drummer Carolyn Hawkins sing a duet around that melody, propelling the riff into a space that’s simultaneously breezy and excited.

If nobody has already mentioned Shihad, I give them my full endorsement.

If somebody has mentioned them. I second their endorsement.

Came here to post this. Brisbane's best band. I was somewhat involved in the record so I'm anything but impartial... but it fucking rocks. Turnpike are one of the bands that got me into local music when I moved to Brisbane as an 18year old about 15years ago.

The record was a long time in the making (they started recording it in 2007), not because it's been laboured over but because they're busy people and saw no reason to rush things.

Has anybody mentioned The Living End?

Saw them at Bottom Lounge here in Chicago a few weeks ago. I'm not a huge punkabilly fan, but they put on a hell of a show.

Never gave Peep Tempel a listen because I assumed they were something I wouldn't like because of the name. I was wrong. Heard the song "Constable" on the radio today. It was great.

I'm an Australian citizen and this record is on a Melbourne based label so I'm gonna post this here:

A two person band I'm a part of of is getting a limited lathe cut release of our record Western Worship on the wonderful and new limited run Australian label Day Dot. We always described it as a desert-forged, psychedelic mess. Righteously compared to the Dead C even though that's not at all what we had in mind. More 13th Floor Elevators, but...whatever.

It can be listened to and purchased if interested here:
