ᴚabbits. About to play their 10th anniversary show this week. Loud, heavy, noisy shit that's in the gray area between punk and metal. On top of their pretty consistent release schedule, they run a kickass label, and created their own summer music festival when Portland's summer music festival turned crap.

Polst. Their tape is good, but their shows are manic catharses.

Ed from Foul Tip tried to come on and say thanks for the love, and that he'd love to play PRFBBQ next year, but he can't figure out the internet.

I dig this VHS band. Think Jay Reatard, but less coke and more weed.

You left off "Constantly Off" by Fight Amp so we would find it ourselves.

A local band Backwoods Payback. Now a 3 piece
Also in that family is Heavy Temple. Doom from Delaware, once again a 3 piece. Sounding amazingly like Bardo Pond.

My wife's band is kinda my favorite band this year (next to These Estates).

They're called Petrillo.

Rough, weird songs. Super strange music to me. This was from a show earlier this year--loose, strange, kinda wild.

This is amazing. Searching for great local bands via means like bandcamp is fruitless.

My city (New Brunswick NJ) has a revival of bad noodle-mathy emo right now, but there are still freaks doin' their thing. To the outsider it probably looks like nothing except the former really terrible scene, if you delve into it you can find a dozen bands comprised of approximately the same amount of people who are all making noisy music with the common themes of airplanes and weed. I'm not affiliated with any of these bands per se, as in, I'm not a member... but know 'em all personally since it's such a small scene here.

Youth Expire - New Brunswick via Brooklyn Godflesh-worship, sounds less Godfleshy now with a drummer. Heavy apathetic rock that makes me feel some type of way... Like seriously listen to this band. So good.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0xR_mw2cDc

Glazer - fuzzed out alt rawk with the shred feels of Dinosaur Jr.
http://glazer.bandcamp.com/

West Jersey Airport - FFO The Melvins and Humble Pie as played by people who are just learning their instruments (mean this in the most complimentary way possible)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwOBJFmD0ec

Microwave Death - burgeoning young noise rockers. just recorded a full length album that sounds amazing, not out yet tho..
https://microwavedeath.bandcamp.com/alb ... ition-demo

nail nose - more young'ns making cool garage rock. They are killer live, hopefully they will have something a bit more representative of their live sound up soon.
http://nailnose.bandcamp.com/

Fond Han - Exploding in Sound Records, and showin' the influence

Ok I'm not from Philadelphia but a mere ~hour away, I gotta add PINK WASH. Like a less spazzed-out Lightning Bolt. https://pinkwash.bandcamp.com/

Also just heard The Cloth today and this band is sick. Sadly I thought I heard Kerosene played their last show? I didn't get to go so cannot confirm/deny, but def one of my favorite Philly bands I've seen in the last few years.

Doug Tuttle - spacey 60's psych pop. also kills it live.

I have that BTDOAGS record, would really love to see them live sometime. If you know them, I host a monthly surf night in Austin if they ever come down this way!

Doug Tuttle was very cool too.

If there are any other Baltimore/DC folk on here, I'd like to hear your recommendations. Except for a couple more established bands like Arboretum and Celebration (and Ex Hex if we're including DC), the current crop of bands around town does not connect. This is especially true for harder, louder, punk-influenced music. Seems like there should be something. If there is, I'm missing it.

No, no, it's Bubonic Bear that broke up. Kerosene are still going strong.

Youth Expire are taking the hypnotic quality of Lungfish and layering a lot of little flourishes from the rest of that era of Dischord bands on it. Dig it.

Glazer have played Philly a lot, no?

yeah, those Youth Expire songs make me feel some type of way. I am really excited for them to record a full length proper.

Glazer play mostly in Philly and New Brunswick... Mostly Lava Space as far as Philly goes but we are buds w/ The Great Indoors + Nacho House people and any Philly-via-New Jersey people.

eta: "we" as in Glazer + me/that group of related bands, I'm not shamelessly self-promotin'.

The North Jersey scene is weird and has a lot of bands that aren't to my taste, but some cool metal. I haven't heard of Budd Dwyer playing in ages but Dutchguts are playin' at my old house in New Brunswick July 12 with some Boston doom bands.

One more to add for NJ metal:
ETERNAL FUZZ
https://eternalfuzz.bandcamp.com/
^ Awesome, heavy but almost kind of beautiful and whimsical, equal parts Floor-worship and LOTR-worship (don't let that discourage you).

You could check out The Abandos, which is Kyle (formerly of a band who has escaped my memory). They posted an angry synthy flashy video on the Facebook.

Eternal Fuzz sound pretty good so far. I am not much of a fantasy fan at all, but that doesn't put me off, say, Pilgrim.

I think members of Budd Dwyer spend more time doing Pink Mass stuff now, but I'm not sure. I know my pal Jeremy from Pink Mass used to be in Ubasute.
