'85 is a great year, especially if you were late to Let It Be. I'd probably take '82 or '86 over it, but let's be real, I wasn't born yet. I was probably some ficus or a Dutchman with cardiovascular problems or a small but fiery dog, but I can't exactly remember.

I digress.

Fourteen-year-old-Randy would have street-teamed for Theater of Pain because I was blinded by Too Fast For Love, Shout at the Devil, and more than willing to make allowances for what was a grave situation what with Vince's drunk-driving/murder conviction (talk about privileged). That said "Tonight (We Need a Lover)" and "Use It Or Lose It" are the only songs from that period that I could spin today and enjoy. Fuck it.

Since I didn't see these get a mention...

The Corrosion Of Conformity album Animosity and The Decendents album I Don't Want To Grow Up both came out in '85. While I'm sure I didn't own either of them that year, they both wound up being formative.

The Hank Williams Jr. album Five-O also came out that year. I know damn well I owned it it in '85.

The Willie Nelson album Me & Paul came out that year. It sticks out because there are a couple of Billie Joe Shaver songs on it.

The Emmylou Harris album The Ballad Of Sally Rose is also '85. It's a concept record. While you don't often hear it come up, it's pretty badass. Well, minus the "Eighties" production but I can let that slide.

I can remember the exact moment when Into the Groove fused pop music and sex in my mind forever, on holiday in Torquay that summer. Not sure if that's a good thing or not, but it is a thing.
