Okay, so I just wanted to brag a little. I won 300 virtual dollars in a multi-table tournament last night on the internet. Virtually. Won the whole thing. First virtual place. That's me.

Just wanted to virtually brag.

I thought online gambling was 'virtually' illegal in the US. Or am I wrong?

What kind of tournament was it?
A $5 dollar that paid really well?
A sparsely attended $10?

It was a $20 three-table sit & go.

Tournaments are great when you win or cash. Otherwise, what a waste of time. ;)

Online gambling's legal status in the US is still up in the air. The Wire Act from 193? says that gambling across state lines using wires to communicate the wager is illegal. Since the internet uses wires, you could say that online gambling is illegal, but conversely, since the internet exists whether you have the wires or not, it's not so clear-cut. There are quite a few politicians who would like to shut down online gambling, but so far, they have been unsuccessful. I'm really generalizing the exact details, but you get the drift.

Oh. I'm assuming that you knew that all of the online gambling sites are hosted outside the US in places like The Isle of Man, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Indian Reservations in Canada, etc.

I should also let you know that as I post this, there are currently over 50,000 people playing poker online. That number will triple by this evening. http://www.pokerpulse.com

That counts as "multiple tables." For me, anyway. Three. Multiple.

Okay, okay. No big deal. Quit puncturing my balloon.

This is why Party Poker, Poker Stars, Ultimate Bet and all the other sites advertise themselves as "online poker schools" in their TV ads. They never mention real money. It's shading the truth, but it avoids liability.

It is a mulit-table. No bones there. Seriously, no bones. I was simply making a personal comment about how I don't like the tournament because is such a waste of my time when I lose.

Maybe not such a waste of time for you.

I thought about doiing one of those but everytime I go to try one it's full. I always manage to get there too late. I really want to go to Paris with their current thing with the WPT. I almost have more of a fascination with trying to get on the Travel Channel's WPT coverage than I do with making it to the Big Game at the WSOP.

Thanks Russ, that clarifies things.

It is quite strange though that an online gambling company (PartyGaming I think?) can be about to float on the UK stock market for something like GBP5 BILLION when their activities are technically illegal in the US, and apparently the directors of the company risk arrest and imprisonment if they set foot in the country.

Once in a while I play cheap ($5+$0.50 and less) multitable tourneys with the idea in mind that I probably won't make much or any money at it, so am basically paying that amount for what I hope will be a few hours of entertainment and great satisfaction if I can outlast most of the competition.

A year or two ago I played the Thursday limit tourney at Harrah's in East Chicago (Hammond?) and, out of 100 players, finished around 40th -- have you guys played those at all?

I've never played poker at the boats. Don't plan on it any time soon. We did go play at the Rockford Charitable Games one time when they were in Arlington Heights. http://www.rockfordcharitablegames.com/

People in the US can't get in on the PartyGaming float can they? What a chance for a great investment.

Can I be the first to say that wasn't funny?
Now that I think about it, you're never funny.
Also, your signature makes you out to be the douche bag that you are.
I mean making fun of one of my favorite posters (Rachael) is one thing but your constant Slint hoodie thing is beyond reproach(thanks Brad).
In essence, I'm saying get a life!!!
