Holy shit, is she a French bulldog/pug mix? Or just a Frenchie?

Just Frenchie as far as we know, she's too stout and bullish to be a mix from others I've seen. Total sweetheart, but stubborn as hell and a bit anxiety-ridden due to what I'm guessing was some pretty serious neglect from her old owner. She's come a long way though!

And yes - beautiful! She appreciates your kind words.

Some beautiful pets here. Been too long since a Finley update. Here he is hanging out on his new favourite couch with his new best friend. I love this guy so much!

Image

And here he is in the van. This was taken in a French campsite while we were driving just over 1,500 miles with my cat, other dog, son, wife, guitars, and most of our other belongings piled within a 1968 VW bus. Seriously, it was packed! (the blur is our sausage dog, below).

He looks so serious because I was eating biscuits and he wanted some if I recall...

Fern is a "happy surprise" dog we got as a puppy from a co-worker. Said co-worker's male pitbull puppy was 6-months old and impregnated her fiance's prize coon hound that he had been breeding. Some of the siblings in her litter have gone on to be great hunters.

The pitbull doesn't show in most photos. She's very sweet most of the time...but can be a real handful of crazytown (which I blame more on the hound-side than the pitbull side) as she HATES all other living non-human creatures except our cat. Taking her for walks is sometimes quite unpleasant, but if she doesn't get a good long walk every day, she makes life miserable.

Our vet said this about hound mixes: "In my experience, it doesn't matter what breed you blend in w/ the hound, all the bad hound traits seem to win out over any good traits from the other breed." She meant this kindly with a bit of wink but as we've had Fern almost 6 years now, I can say that in her case, this certainly seems to be true.

We had Cash euthanized this morning. We had him for ~15 years, was the most dog-like cat Ive ever met. When our first son was born in 2012 he made himself scarce for a year or so, but in the last couple of years he started to really warm up to both kids. I've been crying off and on for about 48 hours.

He was named after Cash Bundren, I was reading as I Lay Dying when we got him and this always made me think of him.

Been a rough couple of days.

I wrote and posted this on my beautiful girlfriend's social media last Friday:

With the heaviest of hearts, we said goodbye to Mattie today.

She fell ill earlier this week, and we found out the cancer had already spread throughout her little body. To the end, she showed no signs of pain. She was tough as nails.

We celebrated our 12th anniversary last week, and she's been with us the whole time. Shana's been fortunate to have spent most of Mattie's 14 years with her.

I think it's vanishingly rare to find a perfect match, and we're eternally grateful to have found our perfect dog.

We took her to a park for a few minutes yesterday and took this really nice photo of her.

We'll miss you forever, Pook.
