Rad. Do you have a pipe?

That's rad, too.

So cool!

Patrick, glad to hear your mum is doing well. Nice work with the glove rooster - that is a classic manoeuvre.

i have been jumping off a lot of stuff into lakes lately. i'm starting to get a handle on when i start getting a little scared. i think it's anything over 26 feet high. jumping from 26 high sucks until you do it. the highest jump i've ever done was 40 feet in the dominican republic, and i don't think i would have done it except that someone was filming me and like an 8-year-old local kid walked up in front of me and jumped off, and i felt my honor was at stake or something.

anyway i'm waiting to get picked up to go camping at this little piece of property i own up in quebec, there's a nice little 22' jumping rock nearby, i'm going to go jump off that a thousand times. anything over 20' and i get nervous about diving.

Gods help me I smoked some herb and I'm listening to WPRB. They are playing a set of kids folk rock songs. I am loving it. The last band, I swear, sounded like a mellow Black Helcopter/Green Magnet School.

Yesterday, I made a last minute call to go out and see a horror film triple feature. The final film was the 1992(I believe) film Candyman. This is the father/son conversation that took place a row in front of me.

Dad: This film came out about seven years before you were born.

Son(without any hint of irony): Is it in color?

I got a good, long laugh out of that.

My MIM Fender Jazz decided to crap out on me in the first 5 minutes of practice. For a moment I panic and then I remember that my daughter's Squier Jaguar bass is also in the practice space, so I grab that. It will do at a pinch, right? Errr ... how come the Jaguar sounds better than my Jazz?!

You know, I've heard this too (with guitars). And I've thought about it.

My theory is that shitty instruments can often produce less precise sound than higher quality ones. Shitty pickups, crappy wood, imperceptible fret buzz, etc

This can have a soft focus effect on your playing, making it sound "better". But I'm not sure it really is.

That would make the kid 12 or 13.

Granted, I once thought that before color film, things were actually black & white. But I was six when I learned differently.

We are fucked.

The Squier definitely feels cheaper but it seemed to sound better, or maybe it just gave me a sound closer to the one I have been looking for. The Jazz has been giving me wiring problems lately, it may sound better after I work on it. However, I am now wondering if I just need something other than a Jazz.

My buddy's Squier VM Jazz plays and sounds way better than my old MIM Precision. Even taking into account the obvious Jazz/P differences.

Honestly, unless I was going for a flagship MIA model, I'd pick Squier over Fender almost every time these days. Seriously, Squier's VM line is killing it, almost regardless of the low price, whereas Fender is dicking around with, what, the Blacktop line? The Pawnshop line? Please.

I'm now trying to convince my band to play a Halloween show and go as the Minutemen for the occasion.

I've never been that happy with the MIM Fender stuff I've played. I tried out a friend's P-Bass that was in my old band's space, and it didn't sound or play anywhere near as well as my '93 MIJ Precision. The current Squiers I've tried (Vintage Modified and Classic series) definitely seemed better than those 90's MIM Fenders.

I have a 2007 MIM Baja Telecaster and it is very nice.

To be fair, it's much better than any standard MIM strat or tele I've played that had not had major work done to it.

My mom came to visit for the first time in a few years. She told me that her dirtbag ex-boyfriend (the reason why she hasn't visited in a few years) has a new sixty year-old girlfriend who has taken up clowning. For some reason my mom thought this was an important point to bring up to her shrink, who informed her that she (my mom's shrink) is hearing about "more and more" older women turning to clowning. Then she told me that she could understand why that'd be appealing.
