NAMM rollcall?

Postby TylerSavage on Mon Jan 19, 2015 1:01 am

Might be old hat for some folks - I've never been so I'm pretty excited to go. I haven't really looked up what's going on at it yet but I'll be spending some time in the taylor booth, and seeing what Traynor/Yorkville has on the go - I'm hoping they have some YBA-1 reissues again to try out. Otherwise any other suggestions on things to try? My Soul Food level pot straight up broke off the knob/shaft in my bag, hoping maybe they'll do a swap with me.

A division of the company my wife works for is going to have a booth there. They make photosensitive anodized aluminum products. They've done faceplates for modular synth companies, and I believe they make the striped aluminum pickguards for the Lakland Geezer Butler signature basses as well. I'm trying to get her to convince them to hire me part-time as a consultant to help them get more into the musical equipment market...I've seen samples of some of their stuff and I think it'd be a pretty cool alternative to engraving or silkscreening for stuff like faceplates for rack gear or 500 series modules.

Yeah that does look nice / clean - if it's cost effective I would be interested in trying it out for a couple projects

I'll be there Thursday and Friday. I don't have to work the booth. I'll just be wandering around and schmoozing, bothering my friends in Hall E, and wishing that I'd packed a lunch as I wait in horribly long lines.

The EHX booth is usually pretty sparse. They're very dealer-centric, and all their products are in a glass case. That's how it's been the last few years.

For me, the most fun is wandering around Hall E, bothering my friends at the smaller pedal companies, and seeing what OEM China knockoffs are new.

Turns out I only get to take one day off of work to go, so I'm debating which day to go; Thursday or Friday. I'll post it here.

Not that you guys know me, but I'll be wandering around Thurs afternoon, Fri, and Sat. I haven't been to NAMM since 2005, back when I cared much less about gear than I do now.

This year I'm mostly coming to hang out with some friends, try and ingratiate myself back into their roadcrew, and then hopefully hit some nighttime corporate events, eat shitty food, and check out the new Walrus Audio gear.

Not since the 80's. The Dean Guitars booth was memorable.

Like I said on Facebook, being at NAMM is like being in a world where punk rock never happened.

I'll be going this year and I'm pretty excited about it. Been to AES in New York half a dozen times but never this one. In particular I'm hoping to check out:

-Juan Alderete showing off EarthQuaker Devices and Ampeg amps
-Traynor amp demo
-Gabe Roth Ampeg clinic
-Bob Lefsetz
-Joe Perry and Jack Douglas talking about "Toys in the Attic"

Who will be there? Who has other recommendations for me (at the show and otherwise)?

I've ever been once (or twice?) and I only ever want to go if there are specific manufacturers that I want to talk to. I wish I had a pass bc I really want to talk to Acustica Audio. I bought a load of their plugins (not algorithmic, described at dynamic convolution) just to pick their brain. They're Italian and it's too tough to try to communicate via email I think.

I'll be in the Line 6 booth every day on and off. It's in the Marriott by Yamaha this year. Swing by!

Yell for some Racer X songs.

Maybe, ask Perry just how many guitar tracks are on "Adam's Apple".

The guys at Strymon are really nice, and it's fun having all their pedals rigged up to try.
The basement is my favorite because of the smaller companies and the variety of products.

The Taylor booth can be a bit rammed but I might be kicking around and everyone who works at it is really nice/knowledgeable. Anyone with white hair is usually a blast to hang out with.

I missed traynor demos last time and felt like a turd cranking something up.

Are you in the area very long? If you're down in San Diego at all I can hip you to some solid food

I'll be there! Come say "Hey" at the Reverb booth.

Very stoked to check out the Ludwig booth, otherwise, going in totally blind - first time there!

I have a weird feeling that will not be very effective.
