Texans: Really Red

I've always really liked this band. I listen to Teaching You the Fear pretty often. What the fuck was up with Texas in the 70's and 80's man? A lot of really good bands. I'm not complaining, but that's not supposed to happen. It's fucking Texas, they took Thomas Jefferson out of their textbooks. That place is a fucking loony bin as far as I'm concerned. I apologize in advance to anyone from Texas.

Not crap.

On a side note, I always thought that Fucked Up ripped off of Really Red far more than Negative Approach.

I've never heard this band, but I've always wanted to, due to the aforementioned quality+quantity Texas punk band explosion of the '70's/'80's.

I lived in Texas the first 24 years of my life and I've never heard of these dudes.

Good read on a great band. I love Teaching You The Fear, and awesomely enough I bought it on a whim. Ha! Score!

You're right on about those Texas bands though. I can always find myself in the mood for one of their classic punk scene's offspring.

Excellent band. Teaching You The Fear is a great album, which I will now be relistening to.

Texas did seem to have a great many good punk bands. Probably as a reaction to the prevailing Texas conservative mentality.

All true.

Really Red is the less spoken of member of the triumverate of lefty, faggy, arty punk bands from that era of Texas punk (Big Boys and Dicks being the other two). I love Really Red every bit as much as the others. Their LPs are great, their 7" platters are great. They are one of those bands like the Feederz who spanned the early days of punk as art school detritus through to the hardcore era without losing the art or falling prey to emoting in the fashion of goons.

One of my all time favs.

Greatness.

I didn't know Really Red was considered to be arty - I never ended up checking them out because I always had the preconception that they were the most standard HC band of the big Texas punk bands.

Any way you slice it, this is an awesome cover:

They were on the bloodstains comp, right? Not Crap

(And The Feederz don't get the amount of attention they deserve, either).

Been on a little Texas HC/Punk kick lately. The best thing these guys did was their 7", New Strings For Old Puppets. Now THAT deserves some reissuing.
