It's funny they're getting better, weirder and personal with each album, after having released Last Splash

Pod was kind of an appetizer but Mountain Battles, what a sublime, organic and strange album

I cosign all of this. I have worked with a lot of people, none of them can hear every little thing and know what it means like her. She listens through the sound to the thing behind the sound, and she is relentless in trying to make if mean something to her.

Absolutely the best at it.

I must listen to Mountain Battles. Title TK caught me by surprise and I fell madly in love with it. Both it and last splash were complete albums, that I can only imagine listening to from beginning to end. I like this a lot. So, Mountain Battles! Wow I am late with this, auf....

Revisited Title TK and Mountain Battles recently...

It never really dawned on me that "T and T" is essentially a slowed-down instrumental version of "Huffer." I remember reading a Reddit Ask Me Anything with Steve awhile back, and it had some interesting info about the recording of "Off You":

I love that song. There's something real and broken about her singing there that reminds me of some people I know who've done a bunch of shit they regret. Vocal was probably the same mic we'd been using for the rest of the record, probably a Shure SM7 through a John Hardy mic amp. Recorded to GP9 on a Studer A820. Kim was really fond of the sound of a slightly-overloaded cassette dub of the rough mix, so for the final mix we aligned a 1/4-inch 2-track machine for a slight overload (+6>500nWb/m on Agfa PEM408 for technical readers) then copied that to the 1/2-inch master.

I forgot how much of Mountain Battles has that kinda scrappy, messy, lo-fi quality to it. I wonder how parts of that were recorded, because the title track in particular just sounds like a 4-track/almost Guided by Voices-y. Some of the vocals and guitar sounds have a really nasty/dirty quality. I know not all of it was recorded at EA, though.

What's the consensus on the Breeders live (Last Splash line-up)?

Saw them twice in '94, once on their own and once opening for Nirvana. Kelley Deal and Pat Smear wear the same size dress, it turns out.

Both times were a jam. Fun.

I'm contemplating the Kansas City date on their upcoming tour. The only time I saw them was in 2013 when they were playing all of Last Splash, it was fine, but it was at a festival.

I'm very interested to read people's impressions of All Nerve. Two sons of one of my closest friends love the Breeders and that they're still quite young brings me joy. A new Breeders record is a major event even here in this rural New South Wales backwater. The Amon Duul II cover is an inspired choice but getting a mixed response in the music press so far.

I'm taking my wife to see them, don't tell her, it's a surprise for her birthday. The stuff I heard on WMSE from the new record sounds solid...I better buy it.

Listened to the new album twice last night. I love it. I was very optimistic based on the strength of the advance singles Wait In The Car and All Nerve. It's unmistakably a Breeders record, but there is a depth of age and experience that gives this album even more gravity. Excellent. I'm not disappointed in the least, can't wait to see them in May.

They played an unmarketed show in Dayton tonight. Just a "Special Guest" posting on the venue's website.

They were incredible. Played the new record in whole, plus "Cannonball" to please the crowd. That material is fantastic, best Breeders tunes I've heard in years. I'm so happy I got to see it in a smaller venue.
