That Helen single is great (sounds like one of my side projects too, apart from the vocals)

I've heard Liz sing "Sail Away" by Enya at a bar, while laughing.

I've been listening to her stuff a lot fairly recently. I have to admit I never appreciated her music that much before; I had listened to Alien Observer a couple of years back and thought it was nice, but never played it all that much after the first listen for whatever reason. After listening to the Slow Walkers album she did with Lawrence English (which is fucking awesome), something clicked. I can't really get into Dragging a Dead Deer Up A Hill, but The Man Who Died in His Boat, Dream Loss and Alien Observer are all great stuff. Music for melancholia. She sounds so strangely distinct even within tons of reverb.

I'm very much looking forward to her forthcoming album.

New record is crushing. Possibly her greatest yet.

Ruins is great, but the last two songs are especially doing it for me right now.

Saw her live for the first time yesterday at St John in Hackney... wow. Loved it. Better than on record, I thought. Projection worked well too. It was so calming I nearly dozed off. Which is a compliment, I think.

I mentioned Helen in the PRF shoegaze thread a while back.

Liz is obsessed with Flying Nun/Xpressway NZ underground stuff, and shoegaze. Helen seems to be her attempt to meld those 2 obsessions in a band context.

I haven't heard this single but I attended both of the 2 shows they've played thus far. Both pretty ragged. Helen is the first actual band Liz has ever been in, and it shows. I bet it's good in the studio, though.

Album on Kranky in September; sample track sounding good. Good 'gaze.

This is a mural Liz did. It's in the Lents neighborhood of Portland. She got a commission from the city to do it. Click on the image and you can see it a lot better.

I kind of stumbled upon it a couple nights ago. Looks really great at night.

Higher resolution recordings of both performances (Basinski, Grouper) are making the rounds, will grab and throw them on WeTransfer tonight.

Heads up Chicago.. Grouper is playing in the cemetery that Earth performed at last year on Saturday. I am very excited for this.
