There is a scene in that documentary HYPE! - The Seattle Scene where you see an old home video of Sandler as the lead singer of some punky New Wave band. Anyone know anything about that?

Gonna keep it 100 and point out that the films that got people going "but then he also made..." are also absolute fucking shit. Fuck Billy Madison, fuck Happy Gilmore. You think they were okay because you saw them when you were 15 and you were an idiot. That's okay, we all were idiots at 15. Don't make excuses for it.

I can't stand how he sings stupid parody songs and laughs while playing them because they are so funny.

Most annoying and least funny SNL "star" ever. Never seen any of his movies nor will I ever.

So far I've managed to avoid any exposure to this person's work (apart from a YouTube clip in which someone else delivers the line "I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul") -- it just doesn't sound like my cup of tea -- so I am not able to vote.

Awful awful stuff.
He's one of these guys that a lot of people think is likable and confuse that with funny. Kind of like Jimmy Fallon.

You're welcome, Angus! I do think that one line is pretty funny, without knowing the context.

A licensed professional health care provider once recommended without detectable irony that I watch the movie Spanglish, and benefit from its wisdom and humor.

Edit: Yes, inspiration and renewal can be found in unlikely-seeming places, if one is open to receiving them -- serendipity! On the other hand, fuck you.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Punch Drunk Love, despite Sandler being in it.

unfortunately, i have not stayed 12 this entire time.

"punchdrunk love" is good, but not an adam sandler movie.

maybe that one with him and don cheadle is good too.

So great to have a thread about Adam Sandler films juxtaposed with a thread about Taco Bell and a thread about a guy who apparently killed and sodomized 1000 people!

Woo-hoo, talk about a Friday morning pick-me-up!

Anyway, I think the Wedding Singer is probably a better movie than Punch Drunk Love (which I didn't really care for).

Put it to a Thunderdome!

My money is on PDL. I think it's probably better than There Will Be Blood, if not as funny.

The popular consensus among critics and moviegoers would definitely be in favor of Punch Drunk Love, since it has an air of being a more "serious" and "nuanced" Sandler film, but I think The Wedding Singer is probably a better effort.

Happy Gilmore was the best thing Sandler was ever a part of.

I'm not so sure. I'd almost always take his work as the blue haired straight man in Shakes The Clown over Happy Gilmore.

I am aware that I am in a vast minority here but Funny People (while long) had some pretty good insights into the narcissistic comic mind.
