Saw them at ATP just before they broke up. It was fucking awesome.

Have you guys checked out the Replikants? I thought some that stuff was pretty neat too.

Not Crap.

I love Unwound. I saw them open for Fugazi and they were great.

At one point I had more Unwound 7"'s than I had by any other band. Unwound singles are great thing. The Unwound/Versus split was probably the only one where I never lost my shit. OK, but not essential. Whatever. Great band.

Still great. Makes me nostalgic for the time when the term "indie rock" wasn't an oxymoron.

i've been rediscovering the Repetition/Future of What-era stuff recently and it's brilliant. i love how their parts are really detached yet add up to a massive whole (even if the records are a bit murky sounding). not crap at all.

NOT CRAP.

'Go to Dallas and Take a Left', the last song on Fake Train (what's it called?) and 'Torch Song' (never heard the original) are just a few reasons for liking this band.

Regarding the various side-projects and offshoots of the band; have only heard Worst Case Scenario and thought it was decent.

Unwound's mixed feelings of anger and apathy had more of an impact on me than those of Nirvana.

A definite not crap. I've gotten into them more and more over the past few weeks.

Does anyone know what tuning they use? It doesn't sound like standard.

I am pretty sure its standard, he just plays weird... I saw them a ton, and it didn't look like he was tuned weird...

Can you really tell from sight? He definitely plays weird though.

As someone who plays in weird tunings all the time yes I can tell when someone is in one, its pretty easy for me to see if a person is playing power or bar chords and the notes do not match standard tuning. I can't normally tell you what the weird tuning is though...

The weirdest and most admirable element to Unwound, especially live, was Sara's drumming. It's like she learned how to drum backwards or something. Some of those rhythms sound like they're in a notation that's reversed from normal rock break beats. Live, Sara rarely missed a beat, and she never looked like she struggled either.

it sounds dreadful, great songs though.

This is interesting - what don't you like about it?

I like some of the heavy use of reverb on some of the tracks. I wonder if they used a plate. It sounds nice. Also things like the whispering backing vocals panned on the second track on CD2 (Scarlette?).

Quality-wise, I didn't think it sounded badly recorded either.

Did Fisk do most the recording?

Yep. Steve Fisk recorded Fake Train, New Plastic Ideas, The Future of What, and Repetition.

Because Pandora seems to play me one of their songs everytime I fire it up.

I had never heard of this band before. Seems pretty damn NOT CRAP to me so far.

This makes sense to me. I loved Unwound up until the end. I applauded their attempts to grow musically but the dub songs never really meant as much to me. I'm going to have to buy The Future Of What again. Should have never sold it.

ghosting wrote:My boyfriend put "Valentine Card/Kantina/Were, Are And Was Or Is" on a mix tape for me early on when we were still getting to know each other, and it blew my balls off. I went and bought like 3 of their albums.

That's a pretty powerful collection of songs. I can't tell you how often I listened to Side 1 of Fake Train; over and over again.

I miss Justin Trosper. Justin was one of my favorite guitarists to watch play live. Can't remember how many times I saw them but he always played like a man possessed.
