Then I picture the big Burger King king-mask-wearing guy, and...and I think Scott Walker wins at that point. Because it's real creepy.

Custodiet migramus kind of means "keep on moving". So there's that.

No idea what the beaky stuff means.

Other than "I am buying this record".

Anybody cave in and listen to the leak? I did, and it sounds great. Really, really great.

Stakes was high for me with Soused, longstanding musical hero collaborates with band I don't particularly like, so much so that I almost didn't want to listen to it, but fuck me now that I've given it a few spins and can realise that it's in fact awesome I want to go out and hug a neighbour. Lullaby in particular is way up there with his absolute best.

First listen now and I'm liking it a lot. It's got me thinking about Walker's increased output in the last few years (I'd even stretch to the past eight). I'm wondering if he's a lot more confident now in the work he creates, to the point where he's realised a lot of the sounds he uses do not need to be meticulously crafted to achieve the effect he envisions.

He's always been rather confident in what he was doing from Tilt onwards, and from the few interviews for this record that I've read, he is still rather exacting in crafting his music. I think that perhaps there are now systems in place to speed things along, more guys on speed dial for when they need bullwhip sounds or a guy to punch meat.

I love this record. I think it's too short. I hope he tries an experiment like this again.

I'm still waiting on a record of Scott crooning overtop a screaming Keiji Haino, banging away on his guitar.

There's obviously now a substantial younger (?) proportion of Scott's audience who think of his output in relation to stuff like Haino, Swans, Sunn O))) etc. It's all good though as it translates into sales and a supportive record label, and they'll still own something substantial if they ever grow tired of measuring supposed extremity by the yard. I only bought Tilt blind in 1995 as there was a review by two separate writers in Select magazine, one of which was completely baffled by it and another who refused to give it a rating at all.

I think someone needs to make mention of “leapin’ like a river dancer’s nuts”. Fuck me Scott, that's some fine lyrics, friend. Record is hot, but I can't help but feel that he's done it all before, though I like the guitar heavy approach here.
