I thought this was pretty cool. In short, Obama or whoever writes his shit for him submitted very detailed answers about what his administration's science policies would look like. Lots to agree and disagree with in the details, but in short, the guy seems to at least believe that our planet is more than 5700 years old and that cause-and-effect is like, a thing or something. Most shockingly, he would also like policy decisions regarding science, technology, and medical ethics to be informed by the work of actual scientists.

I know I'm being a masochist here, but let me be optimistic for a minute.

The vote on the telecom act was extremely disappointing. In my mind it completely killed him as a legitimate candidate for change. A lot of the things he has said lately have me irate with him but this telecom thing is beyond fucked.

The companies who told the government no (Qwest for instance) because it was a serious violation of the law to start with and the trust of the American people for another should be lauded for standing up to these fascists. Shit like this screams big brother and now the companies who said no have no argument to stand on when the government comes back asking for information after they sign this into law.

This is stupidly disappointing and sickening. Obviously they tell us it's all for our protection but so is the torturing of detainees right? I'm sure our government would never abuse this power they shouldn't have to begin with to spy on or torture innocent citizens.

His recent move to the middle is extremely disappointing. I know the popular consensus is that he's appeasing people to win but I just don't see it based on his voting record on issues like this. It's an irrevocable breach of our trust.

I don't know if he's ever been elsewhere, and I totally agree that rolling over for the telecom industry like he did was disgusting. I'm still voting for the dude; at this point I'm happy to settle for a tolerant center-right guy who puts some value on intelligence and education. sad but true.

I'm pretty indifferent to it. From my understanding, the reason he voted for it was to avoid millions of dollars going into lawsuits against the telecom companies that were basically following orders. It's not like Bush, Cheney or anyone else truly responsible was going to see any repercussions for what they did.

He's always been pretty centrist and I didn't really think that that vote was alarming at all.
