Creedence by a country fucking mile. A few VU songs are exceptional and a few are good. Many are terrible. I find it very hard to listen to almost any Creedence song and not feel great joy. Maybe the best American rock band ever.

In the someday, what's that sound.

Sorry to disappoint! I guess I'm young enough that when I finally heard VU everyone had told me how incredible they were and I was pretty underwhelmed. I've tried getting into them more than any other band I know and have found my efforts wasted - you can't help what you don't like! That said, I like some songs off White Light / White Heat.
I'm not a pop kind of girl. The Jesus Lizard were my VU.
I will say I can't go to a party these days without someone I know whose heard that I don't like this band wants to fight me. I guess I'm a real iconoclast.

CCR made some great songs, but I always thought they were a bit of a one trick pony.

Many of my favorite bands could be described as one-trick ponies.

Fine by me.

The Ramones
AC/DC
Slint
Hitler
Shellac
S.O.D.
The Replacements
Stalin
Christopher J. McGarvey
Begin By Gathering Supplies
HookerDragger
the list goes on and on...

While he may have been a one-trick pony, Hitler wasn't exactly a lie down sally.

For who? People that can't get enough southern rock?

CCR wrote good short songs, but there's no comparison against VU.

While they were into swamp music, the weird thing about CCR is that they were from San Francisco.

They weren't even from Frisco proper but the other side of the Bay, one of those little Berkeley satellites--I'm thinking it's called El Cerritos.

By the way, I'm going with the Velvets on this one though I loves me some Creedence.

The Stooges? MC5?

The MC5 are nowhere near the same class of rock band as CCR, the VU, and the Stooges.

Blasphemy. "High Time" kicks the shit out of any CCR or VU you could name. Ties "Fun House". "Kick Out the Jams" is the best live album ever and it was their debut. Much as I like Creedence, they were just a pussified Bay Area version of the five. Look it up.
