You can probably still get Alien Soundtracks and Half Machine Lip Moves on a single CD from Touch and Go.

You can get Red Exposure and Blood on the Moon as individual CDs from Cleopatra. This is probably the way to go, even though I don't encourage anyone to buy from that label. The spine of the Cleopatra Red Exposure CD is mislabeled Retro Transmission, which irritates me to no end.

It's worth tracking down the long-out-of-print Dossier CD of No Humans Allowed. It has the entire Read Only Memory single (both forwards and backwards), which is maybe the best thing Chrome did.

I hope this helps!

Sweet. Thanks for the pointers.

x2 on the thanks! I have never heard the last two albums you mentioned, placeholder. Found them on Soulseek and am looking forward to digging in. My life has been Chrome-less as of late. For shame.

The new album is surprisingly good, very catchy and messed up. Occasionally great. Had it on regular rotation since December.

I recorded this a while back. Guess this is as good a place as any to post it.

Salut!

It's as if I was trying to say "long-out-of-print" as many times as possible!

This is awesome. I have somehow heard it before, probably via Facebook.

It turns out that Cleopatra has reissued The Visitation on CD. I had no idea.

Their recent reissue of Third From the Sun inexplicably replaces the album version of "Firebomb" with the edited 7" version, which is already on the box. So stupid.

If I could only keep ONE of these fuckign records here its the half machine lp. Zero waffle. Let7s go, fuck the rest, I don't need them. Different every time I hear it, after all these years, a thrill every time.

Finally got started with this band. Alien Soundtracks totally did me in. My next stop, Third From the Sun really did not impress me, but I finally got Half Machine Lip Moves the other day, seems like a good time is to be had.

I'm only familiar with "Alien Soundtracks", "Half Machine Lip Moves" and "Red Exposure" (which I consider slightly inferior to the other two, but not by much).

As far as I'm concerned, the rest of their discography could consist entirely of Ariel Pink covers sung by a tone-deaf karaoke contestant and they'd still get a Not Crap on the strength of those three records alone. Off to check out "Third From the Sun" next...

Everything from the run where it's both Damon and Helios is amazing. Just everything. Sure, I might like Raining Milk a little less and Half Lip a little more, but every album promises the same level of hazy drug-addled alien paranoid hilarity.

I'm not a guitar tone chaser by any means, but I keep coming back to Helios' style and sound for inspiration.

Not Crap, I'm obsessed.

I can't vote because I know that I haven't cracked Chrome yet, but I've heard all the good stuff and it's never made an impact. Any suggestions for getting into it?

Other than listening to it what sort of advice are you looking for?

Maybe you don't like Chrome.

get extremely stoned and listen to Half Machine Lip Moves at full volume by yourself. If that doesn't work, you don't like Chrome.

The way I come to it is more from a Thinking Fellers or Faust Tapes point of view, not so much as a ROCK band, but from the psychedelic / collage / absurdist side. That's why 3rd From The Sun didn't do much for me.

Bump

Anyone seen them on this tour, or semi-recently? They're coming here Thursday.

I'm a bit miffed that I'll be out of the country when they come to my area.

They'll be in Houston Friday and I came here to ask the exact same thing.

Go see them. They were great. Noisy loud weird rock. Great vibe and energy.
Very nice people to boot. Had a nice chat after the show.

Saw them last night. It was good, if weirdly subdued. Seems like they let the pedals do all the work, so there is no dynamic controlled by the pick attack or muffling, etc. Still, the formula works these many decades later.

I missed it. Really wanted to go to this. I wanted to see how it stacks up to seeing Helios Creed live. Did Helios do the Damon vocal parts? I've been wondering how it works.
