early motorhead were fucking awesome overkill bomber ace of spades are all incredible records, philthy animal taylors drumming on those early records is on a par with keith moons in the who....plus early early motorhead had far more in common with punk than metal....great band circa 76-82...so motorhead all the way!

ac/dc to me just sound like a pub rock band....boring stuff kinda like a slightly more aggressive status quo....i have never liked ac/dc they are cringe worthy to say the least!

Gutted I missed this thread first time round. Motorhead, no question. They have a song called Orgasmatron. I will be forever envious that I do not have a song called Orgasmatron. Or a face full of warts.

Actually, maybe just Orgasmatron.

Oh, and they wrote Damage Case.

"Lemmy, why do you dye your hair?"
"Because I'd look like fuckin' Willie Nelson if I didn't"

So, to recap: MOTORHEAD.

AC/DC is rock for before you are old enough to drink beer. Motorhead is rock for when you have moved on to whiskey.

Motorhead.

So. goddamn. hard.

I love both of them to death, though I don't listen to either of them too often. When I do, though, it's crank-up-the-volume time.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

In the someday, what's that sound.

AC/DC brought power...Moterhead added speed.

What would have been if Bon Scott lived longer? Would they have ever gained the level of popularity they went on to achieve? Would some people be more tempted to like AC/DC if they hadn't sold 40+ million copies of Back In Black?

As for Motorhead...what would the world be without Ace of Spades or No Sleep 'til Hammersmith? What would the world be like if there were no Lemmy...and how the fuck is he still alive and rocking?

Both are more than the sum of their parts. Motorhead isn't just Lemmy and AC/DC is far more than just Angus. In their heyday, both bands may have been overshadowed by their more visible frontmen.

Gut Check....AC/DC. But there are at least 2 Motorhead songs I like more than any AC/DC song. Damn that was hard.

This argument is actually pretty simple.

First off, the disclaimer. I love AC/DC about as much as a person could. I used to clean house with my mom while we cranked Back In Black.

However, Motorhead make AC/DC look like a joke.

Examples:

Eat The Rich: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCyFkjBRrbo
If AC/DC did anything half as good as that during '87-'89, I'll go down on Joan Rivers.

R.A.M.O.N.E.S.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo7hAyonWqE
Anyone in AC/DC who'd try to pull that off would look silly.

Spongebob Squarepants Movie Soundtrack: "You'd Better Swim" lays waste.

Motorhead have become a somewhat more complex band as time has gone by. AC/DC have not.

Last: If this was the only thing Motorhead had ever recorded, they'd still be a better band than AC/DC - "Stand By Your Man" with Wendy O. Williams http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTSu8jGcTXg

This song is making it hard for me to vote AC/DC. And the video Marsup posted. How can you beat someone driving a motorcycle through a wall??

The song "Dirty Deeds" really kicks ass too though.

But the drums in the video I just posted make it even harder.

FUCK!

OK, since I heard that song (first Motorhead I've listened to) I'm hooked on them now. So... thanks. Why haven't I frigging heard of these guys before?? Almost all rock/metal bands start sucking their third decade in the ring, and for the drek albums, there's at least two 4 star albums in the 90's and 00's.

And the straight-on Spinal Tap vibe that that video gives (with the faux-tough as nails non-sequitur "Killed By Death") is hilarious, and yet it doesn't seem cheesy at all when you're listening to it. Pretty much wanting half their discography now.

So thanks for that, Marsupialized.

I've never heard a single thing by Motorhead, but they have to be better than ACDC. So I voted Motorhead.

AC/DC by a mile.

no one rocks like this.

motorhead is kinda boring, and doesn't move me in any sort of way that's memorable. ace of spades is a fantastic song, coincidentally their most accessible, but I think it kinda stops there. AC/DC is tight, and consistent, they have a great rock sound. they have so many great songs, it's reserved where it needs to be, and at all the right moments, it takes off, and is just far more fun. it's gotta be those one string licks.
when I think of motorhead I just think of meatheads throwing around the horns, and plugging ace of spades at a bar.

Give me a break, if that is a band just rocking your socks off you have some insanely low standards.
That song sucks, it's boring, the performance is boring. The whole thing is a limp, old turd.

old turds or not, they all look like middle aged men who don't know how to dress themselves properly, and shouldn't be doing what they're doing, but they do it anyway. that video might not the best representation, but that that song actually rules, and is a sleeper of a song. hardly sucks.

those video weren't that rockin'
smoke and mirrors is what you see.

Have never cared for AC/DC and probably never will.

Their music, despite good qualities, does nothing for me.

Motorhead, on the other hand...

Motorhead is the sort of band I can get into, even though it's not normally the kind of thing I'd listen to.

Lemmy is a fantastic vocalist, and he sounds just as great now as he did twenty years ago. Much has been made of what a swell fella Bon Scott was, and I don't intend to make light of that, but, c'mon...he was no Lemmy.

Lemmy was in Hawkwind. And he was one of a very small handful of people featured in the second Decline of Western Civilization movie who not only didn't come off as a roaring douchebag, but actually seemed pretty cool.

Angus Young is probably a better guitarist than any of the guys in Motorhead, by wide margin, but taken as a whole his band really bores me. Yeah, if I'm in bar and AC/DC comes on the jukebox, I'd much rather be listening to that than the Black Crowes or Depeche Mode, but that's not saying much.

Motorhead. Motorhead. Motorhead.
