WOW. Going to pay someone to tape these for me, or something.

I loooove Mr. Show. I even like the 4th, weakest season. But for me it's got to be Kids In The Hall. The performance quality is no match. Sure, the way Dave and Bob and Jay and Paul and Tom and Jill deliver some of their lines will always rub my ribs (and I think Tom and Jill were possibly the best actors on the show), but the consistency and authenticity of Dave Scott Bruce Kevin and Mark's characters holds together more. I feel the subject matter of Mr. Show was sometimes more subversive and I appreciated that, but KITH dug deeper into human behavior and the territory of the subconscious.

You know, my life she is the stupid. I have not had much time to post here in the last few days, but I have had time to think about this thread. I didn't think about the government, or the poor or the nature of existence. I thought about some silly comedy tv shows. A lot. I don't know why this kind of shit means so much to me. I think I respond to comedy more than any other style of whatever. That's a big reason why I like bands like Shellac and The Cramps. They're funny and absurd. If I had my way, all i'd do all day is laugh and feel good. I'd be even more ignorant about the world than I am now, I suppose but there's also a chance I might gain some insight. Or there isn't, and it wouldn't matter because i'd feel good. I guess I should just admit that laughing and happiness are a drug for me and i'm a laughing junkie.

I've decided to go with KITH. It's not that they're smarter, but they are more twisted and surreal, and that appeals to me more for the lone fact that I can watch KITH over and over like Columbo. I can't watch Mr. Show more than once a year anymore because they're style of humour is more open or immediate or something I can't articulate. I love Mr. Show, but I can't watch it over and over.

KITH wins, but for strange reasons.

Best sketch ever, across any comedy show. Seriously. I can't even think about it for a second without losing my shit.

The fact my guy doesn't find it funny at all makes me wonder if he was dropped on his head as a baby...

When I first saw the thread I thought this would be hard, but when I thought about it I realized that kids in the hall is simply my favorite show ever and there's really no contest.

I can't say Kids in the Hall is better than Mr. Show, but I do have to make it my choice.
Why do you make it so scary to post here.

I made a bass player joke last week and nobody got it. I got really sad.

Then I played for 10,000 people and everything was OK again.

Speaking of tough choices...

Who had the worse movie: Brain Candy vs. Run Ronny Run?

Although each made a fine post-show followup (Newsradio/Arrested Development), which actor dropped bigger turds: David Cross or Dave Foley?

This is tough! KITH has always been one of my favorite shows, and was pretty consistently hilarious. Their movie was better. However, Mr. Show just did it for me. Hit my funny bone just right. I was obsessed with it for a brief period of time when the DVDs came out and I could watch them over and over without waiting until 3am on a Sunday night or something to try and maybe catch one of the shows. Not that many other people I know seemed to be all that into it, so it was kinda "my" show, you know? Felt like it was scientifically designed to be my favorite sketch show. Also, a lot of KITH was just kinda "medium funny," like them just acting weird or doing the "These Are the Helens I Know" song. Kinda funny and goofy, but not as brilliant as almost all of Mr. Show was, in my opinion.

Although the "Pre-taped Call in Show" segment on Mr. Show is an outstanding piece of work that almost made me suddenly opt for Mr. Show I am going to have to give it to the Kids.

I thought that my home was my castle
With no one scrutinizing me
No pigs, no lying bitch, no hassle
Y'all are brutalizing me

Can't a man not drink his beer in silence?
Can't a man not crudely lie and scream?
Can't a man not control his bitch with violence?
Y'all are brutalizing me

Y'all are brutalizing me
Here comes the pissball, shithead - get ready!

First time I saw that sketch I was whacked out of my balls on mushrooms. That was fun!

Both were great, but neither one was Monty Python or SCTV. Tie for 3rd.

A woman I dated for a while made me watch Mr. Show. She would cackle loudly and I would not get it.
Kids In The Hall I love to this day. Sometimes I'll put back a six pack while hunting down skits on YouTube and realize I just spent two hours watching fucking YouTube. That's how good this show is.
As an aside, growing up in a fairly strict Irish Catholic household, I don't know how the fuck I got away with watching that show when I was, what? Ten? And I waited - I mean I fucking waited for a Buddy Cole sketch every episode. He was quite possibly the coolest motherfucker on the planet to me for some reason. I had to secretly watch SNL, my parents forbid The Tracey Ullman Show, but somehow I was able to watch syndicated KITH in the middle of the afternoon and nobody said boo about it.

Oh, and "Sausages" is my hook up. You don't even know.

I'm surprised how handedly KITH won this poll. I suppose that while I stick by the fact that Mr. Show's writing and overall vision was stronger and will in the end influence more good comedy writers/actors, KITH has a certain friendly charm that ultimately helped them win out.
