Band: Mayyors

Bad-ass, delay pedal-soaked, enigmatic noise-punk quartet from Sacramento. They don't tour, give interviews, record for anyone else's record label, or release full-length albums.
Their infamy is all based on word-of-mouth.

More important, they are a tremendous and throttling musical unit, perhaps my favorite American band to emerge in the last couple of years, despite the instant-collector's-item nature of their recordings (admittedly, a bit of a drag).

A most emphatic NOT CRAP. Y'all?

This band is badass and I'm sure I'll never see them live; they seem to only play in Cali, and they'll probably break up before I get out there.

Sounds really interesting.

Is their music online?

I like this clip I found (for a few reasons..):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdwuuvO0L2c

There's some live footage too, though it didn't do anything for me.

Not officially. Their m.o. includes avoiding iTunes, not having a band website. And keeping off MySpace.

However, they don't much care if people share their music digitally. And a lot of their tunes have popped up on YouTube and on various mp3 blogs.

Try to find the song "Clicks," which encapsulates everything great about this band.

The live footage on YouTube is lo-fi and has left me somewhat cold, but I'm told that their gigs are tremendous.

Being that it's all OOP, I could post some stuff in the Sendspace thread...

I fucking love this band. I haven't heard much from these guys lately, so I thought they might be defunct. But, I just saw that they have some new shirts so I guess they're still kicking around. I'm optimistic that they'll be out east soon.

NOT CRAP.

All I have is the Deads EP with the mud sleeve, if someone can PM me some more that'd kick serious ass.

Well, you have Deads already.
No idea where you can find the music from the first 7".
But here's the second one, the charmingly titled Megan's LOLZ EP.

A Side songs, "Intro" and "Airplanes":

And the B Side, "White Jeep":

I think these guys could play Barry Manilow tunes and still manage to not be crap. I saw them a couple of times last year; one time was at some house party in Fullerton.

Loud as fuck, funny and super nice dudes. I've heard people compare them to Jesus Lizard, but I don't think so.

I hope these guys continue as they are now, and don't take a turn for the suck.

I am rather envious. Shake my hand.

And I don't get the Jesus Lizard comparisons either. Some writer also brought up the Fat Possum roster, which seemed even more off-the-mark. There's maybe a wee bit of Pussy Galore in the riffs and a dash of Chrome in the vocal processing, but they're basically doing their own thing, loud and clear.

I, too, hope they remain an insular and pure phenomenon. Although a few East Coast dates would make my day.

Totally Not Crap. This band was awesome. The only problem with them is that their songs end too quickly. I sometimes want them to blast along at this pace for five minutes. (That's a pretty huge compliment.)

Damn, didn't realize they broke up already, not that I would've had a chance to see them before they broke up anyway.

Holy fuck, not crap.

Timely bump.

A few weeks ago I learned that Chris Woodhouse, resident Mayyor, recorded pretty much everything by A Frames. He also used to be in a band called Karate Party, who Lars Finberg from A Frames could not stop raving about incessantly. I see that the Karate Party LP is still available from S-S Records, and I am chomping at the bit to hear it.

Anyone familiar?
