Ha! I was just going to say something about that moment. Mos Def is absolutely screaming! He looks wired.

That was a pretty bad ass moment of late night television. Yeah.

I think he must. I don't know what's going on there, but he has to know his crew is blowing up like Dresden right now. I feel really bad for that kid, but Tyler and Hodgy and everyone else are calling for Earl. It's not like no one's noticed that he's gone. I've been thinking about just what the hell happened to him. All Tyler ever said was that "he's on vacation."

If Earl actually does come back soon, things are really going to blow up. Everyone wants Earl to come back.

That performance was nuts.

I've been going back and forth with this band. I'm totally baffled by them.

The latest rumor about Earl, which may actually be true, is that he was sent to a wilderness program in Utah by his parents. Someone on the Free Earl Sweatshirt facebook page said he was in the program with him and that "he's a changed man. Literally."

I really, really hope to God that isn't true.

I was basically dead when I went in for class this morning. And not because I made a point in staying up to see the performance - 2:00 isn't that unusual for me - but the fact that I was so excited after seeing it that I didn't go to sleep for about an hour or two on top of that.

I'd say it was pretty worth it!

I don't think Mos was being self-effacing at all. I think he's way the fuck into OF and decided to mug a little for the camera. It was funny and all, but dude's never looked older.

Count me among the people that can't understand why so many people here would vote crap for these guys...
I don't think the song they performed on fallon was as strong as most of the stuff on Bastard or Earl, but man, they KILLED it. and had a blast doing it.
Totally inspiring to see people their age just making it happen like that. the most punk thing i've seen in a while.

I'm probably going to be going along with a host of others here, but for the past year I've had these dudes in my craw, and ultimately left in a state of total confusion. There's a lot they rap about that pisses me off, and in the end that may be my favorite thing about them. Couple that with the fact that they're taking rap back to the era of scaring the shit out of parents while making ALBUMS that are not just a 1% single, 99% filler.

Dave hit this perfectly, and I'm gonna go with it: it's pure unfiltered teenage frustration/hormonal freakout, but they're obviously in their own world...everything--the beats, the rhymes, the artwork, the video, it's all of their own. It's so far away from some dickbags in the noise scene doing the same thing whitehouse did--doing the same noise, same lyrical content--all for the sake of "being confrontational." Fuck that, this is an ongoing saga for these kids. My only hope is that this doesn't go to their heads and they become parodies of themselves. I hope they just go on their own path and not feel like they owe anyone anything.

That Fallon performance was the most confrontational/intense/unnerving performance I've seen on a Major Network since Fear on SNL.

also Earl brutalizes Rich Boy's Drop beat to the point that Rich looks pedestrian as fuck. ridiculous.

So in the end...NOT CRAP. Bum People Out. Get Others Excited. Fuck School.

Really struggling to find a way into this thread to say anything beyond 'I really like it', but, I really like it. A lot. Hooray for hard, dark as fuck, exciting and relevant new music that rips through carefully considered mental constructs and kills media.

Sort of hilarious and maybe brilliant to think that Tyler has an album out on the same label as Radiohead a few weeks after theirs. That just occurred to me.

And...where the fuck have 30 crap votes suddenly appeared from? Fuck these people and their White Stripes records.

This is the most excited I've been about a new band in a good ten years.

It's hilarious to think people are still arguing about Radiohead within 100 internet yards of this shit.

I don't care, I've used 'swag' in conversation at least 5 times today.

From what I've read in interviews it seems they're pretty aware of this danger and doing a lot to make sure it doesn't happen, Tyler's outright stated that he doesn't let anybody hear his stuff until it's done for fear that other people's opinions might taint what he's trying to express.

Went and downloaded Bastard, Earl, and the Radical mixtape yesterday. Really digging the songs like "Swag Me Out" where they all get together and fuck around, it's cool that there's a playful side to them to counter the dark and mean. The beat in "Turnt Down" is just ridiculous. Kinda hope they drop the whole rape fascination as they get older.
