"Swag Me Out" has no serious content at all. Same with "Tina" and "BSD." They have no purpose other than to be some sort of audio record of a group of friends making a racket and fucking around, same space as something like Lil B's "Ellen Degeneres." I think that stuff is hilarious.

I was going to tweet this, but I realized it could have alienated several of my friends on Twitter, people whose friendship I truly value but I'm unsure I've truly convinced I don't actually look down on them for reading Pitchfork: Odd Future Wolf Gang Obvious Middle School Humor Wack Beats Decent Technical Rapping Skill I Guess Kill Your Selves

That felt good. Thanks for giving me an outlet, PRF.

It goes without saying that I would change my vote to CRAP if I could. I thought NOT CRAP when I started this thread because Tyler's growl, pitch-shifted even lower in the "French" video, is striking, and the part where he's saying "Check my French" while gazing into space in alternating directions with the one dude was really oddly inspiried, and it was cool when Earl was in the barber's chair and they drank the stuff from the blender with all the drugs and lots of skaters wiped out. Admittedly, I still think those things are sort of cool, and I recognize Earl's incredible command of assonance, but still, it is a waste of time for me to listen to this group's music or keep up with their out-of-control shenanijinks given the other music I'm already aware of, let alone not. I'm just going to remain as close to silent as I can within reason when they come up in social settings. I refuse to exert any more effort feigning enthusiasm for them. Even though I will likely have to make a few white lies to keep my social anxiety down, at least I'm no longer lying to myself.

Tyler's recent VMA fulfilled an aspiration of his. Punk as fuck. Also, doesn't their full name include the words "Wolf" and "Bacon"? Man, talk about original. Kill people, burn shit, fuck school. Fuck Bill O'Reilly.

Death Grips, to paraphrase a poster from the C/NC thread about them, are what Odd Future would sound like if they actually had any of the qualities their supporters/apologists project onto them--"angry," "raw," "punk" (I know, again with the "punk," but come on). I hope those guys end up being a fraction as prolific as Odd Future already has been.

(I can't wait for Antero to patronize me. It must be fun to shoot fish in a barrel.)

(Actually, can the thread end now? It's finally come full circle.)

Death Grips are fucking awesome, but they're noisy and raw in a way that has a lot of precedent - Dalek, Anti-Pop Consortium, &c. &c., as well as a resemblance to a lot of non-rap things that are well-loved by the PRF. That is, after all, why their C/NC is so overwhelmingly positive. OF is disruptive.

Hey, have you heard Rappers Odd Future have been pulled from the line-up at a festival in New Zealand over complaints about the group's controversial lyrics. That's not fair.

I do not find it hard to believe they were stupid.

Personally I think Hip Hop music can have a more free-speech nature to it, making it lyrically superior to other genres metaphorically, symbolically and visualy (as in the way it tells a story). I 100% know that everybody will disagree with me but that's because you probably haven't be enlightened to the finer aspects and artists of the genre.

"True to the game, as long as blood is blue in my veins,
I'll pour my heineken brew to my deceased crew on memory lane" - Nas

"As long as blood is blue in my veins" is metaphorically saying "as long as I'm alive", and the whole bar comes together pretty impressively, and then the second line is talking about like when people go to graveyards and pour liquor on friends and families graves as a sign of remembrance, What's more impressive is that this is one of the less intelligent lines out of any of Nasir Jones' songs, it just happens to be one of my favorites.

"I must have wound up on the wrong side of the lane trail,
Where they rob memory banks and end up in a brain cell" - Elzhi

Another good bar. You get the message? Robbing banks and ending up in cells? The song is called Memory Lane and he's talking about the criminal activities within his past. I know, very cliche for a rapper to be talking about past convictions, but isn't the best music written about personal experiences and real things? That's where these neo-rappers like Tyler the Creator, Hopsin, SwizZz, Tech N9ne, etc, fall short. They don't have honest pasts. You can't write about experiences that you haven't experienced. So they instead try to verbally shock you with poor and grotesque lyrics.

Honestly, I can understand the hate for Hip Hop. At face value it is just a terrible genre because all anybody who hasn't been exposed to the inner workings of the genre have heard are the popular music. And some of the popular music is good, but so much of it (nearly all) is bad which is what gives the genre a bad rap (that's a pun).

To prove my point, I challenge anybody to find the best written song, or even line in a song, and I'll find a rap song which has superior lyrics. And sure you can break lyrics down into subjective opinions but the intelligence purveyed is always clear.

That song is pretty sweet. I hope it's not a prank, like an old recording or something.

That video came out of nowhere yesterday. And he does look a bit older (is he growing a mustache?). I dig.

the part that doesn't make sense is the reaction from Hodgy Beats, who said that Earl is not free and "fuck fabrication" over Twitter.

Yeah, it was really bad, and I'm a fan.

I'd give even odds that that's a hoax or an old, unreleased Sly Tendencies song, slowed down a hair.
