CAN vs. This Heat

Postby AnthonyVillalobos on Fri Feb 11, 2011 5:19 pm

Alright, I'm aware this isn't exactly the fairest match up, seeing as CAN was a huge influence on This Heat and just about every other band that matters, but when I thought about this earlier it wasn't so easy for me to make a choice. I still can't.

CAN is just...well, fucking CAN. The greatest. But the first two This Heat LPs and Health & Efficiency EP are perfect. Gold.

This may be a ton easier for you.

I'll choose later.

I love a whole bunch of Can's records, but This Heat gets my vote without any hesitation.

There are few bands I'd rate higher than This Heat.

This Heat is one of the greatest, but I choose Can. I've been hearing their "bad" records lately, and I'm amazed by how good they are. Excelent... except for Rite Time and S/T.

So easy. I love Can, but they couldn't touch This Heat.

This is a real Sophiedome for me. Both bands have been my #1 group at different times. I think This Heat used texture and tape marginally better than Can. Two absolutely killer drummers squaring off in the dome, although Jaki is my favourite drummer ever, so advantage Can.

What the hell, I'll vote Can for getting to me earlier.

This Heat.

Can often sound like a bunch of hippies 'jamming out' to me.

Faust vs. This Heat would be a tougher call for me.

I like them equally probably but This Heat didn't have a terrible period or release any bad music, got to respect a band who knows when to put down the guitars.

I can-not believe that so many on here even like This Heat. It's not a band that I ever even consider listening to.

I started listening to Can back in the early 70's. I'm, just now, listening to This Heat for the first time.

I personally can't see This Heat replacing Can in my heart, even though I am liking what I'm hearing, so far.

Nobody else has ever made another record like Tago Mago. It is the musical equivalent of levitation.

Can.
